New hotness: Politiker hält sich für Moses.
Johnson then revealed that — in the lead up to the “tumult” of Kevin McCarthy losing his gavel and the chaotic GOP process of selecting new Speaker — he had been speaking directly to God. “Look, I’m a Southern Baptist, I don’t wanna get too spooky on you,” he said, provoking some laughter from the attendees. “But, you know, the Lord speaks to your heart.”The message he received from God, Johnson said, was to prepare for a “Red Sea moment” — both for the Republican conference “and in the country at large.” Johnson said found the directive confusing but he continued to seek the counsel of God.
“The Lord began to wake me up, through this three-week process, in the middle of night to speak to me,” Johnson insisted. “Now at the time,” he continued, “I assumed the Lord is going to choose a new Moses.” But because of his own lesser rank among the GOP’s leadership, Johnson said, he believed the heavenly message to be: “You’re gonna allow me to be Aaron to Moses,” citing the role of the Old Testament prophet’s brother and biblical sidekick.
Johnson’s speech to the National Association of Christian Lawmakers — a group that seeks to enact its anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ “biblical worldview” into law — is just the latest evidence that the politician who is now second in line for the presidency views himself as on a divine mission.
Gott steh uns bei!1!!
There are no indications of the server breach or spoofing attacks on the network segment, quite the contrary: the traffic redirection has been configured on the hosting provider network. The wiretapping may have lasted for up to 6 months overall (90 days confirmed). We believe this is lawful interception Hetzner and Linode were forced to setup.
This led us to believe that although the compromised key acquired by Storm-0558 was a private key designed for Microsoft's MSA tenant in Azure, it was also able to sign OpenID v2.0 tokens for multiple types of Azure Active Directory applications.
*wieher*
Hätte uns doch nur vorher jemand gewarnt!!1!
Orcas have attacked and sunk a third boat off the Iberian coast of Europe, and experts now believe the behavior is being copied by the rest of the population.
NeuroImage’s editorial team has tried to convince Elsevier to reduce the publication fee from $3,450, as we believe large profit is unethical and unsustainable. Elsevier is unwilling to reduce the fee; therefore, with great regret, all editors (more than 40 academic editors) of NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports have resigned. We are starting a new non-profit Open Access journal, Imaging Neuroscience, intended to replace NeuroImage as our field’s leading journal.
A Metropolitan police officer has been revealed as a serial rapist who committed more than 71 serious sexual offences, despite the force being told of repeated allegations over two decades that he was a threat to women.PC David Carrick, an armed officer in the parliamentary and diplomatic protection command, admitted on Monday to 49 counts – some detailing multiple offences, against 12 women.
Ja gut, so um die 50 Fälle, da verliert man schon mal den Überblick, wen man jetzt alles vergewaltigt hat!1!!The scale of offending by Carrick, 48, spanning 17 years, makes him one of the worst sexual offenders in modern criminal history.
Yeah! Rekord! Wir sind wieder wer!The force was told about nine incidents from 2000 to 2021, including eight alleged attacks or clashes Carrick had with women before the arrest that led to his convictions.
Corpsgeist!Other victims he admits attacking were warned that if they spoke out about him raping and sexually assaulting them they would not be believed because he was a police officer.
He added: “We’ve got some officers who we sacked, but other legal bodies, who have a power to reinstate them, did. So I’ve got officers who we determined shouldn’t be police officers and yet I have to keep them. It sounds bizarre – I’m the commissioner, yet I can’t decide who my own workforce is.”
He added: “They have no desire to strike; it’s not allowed but they are frustrated. I’ve seen data about police officers using using food banks, which is really concerning.”
Weia.
It is safe to assume that behind the numbers you read there are people completely disoriented and scared about what the state will do to them, approached by someone they believe is an agent of the state
In a labyrinthine case, Mitsotakis' center-right government admits that the intelligence service conducted this legal wiretapping, but is denying any involvement with what it calls separate illegal cases, in which Androulakis and journalists were bugged with spy software called Predator.
“I'm well aware that there are interests that want weak governments, because they believe that this increases their ability to exert influence,” he said. He added that everyone should calm down because Greece's neighbors, referring to Turkey, “remain unpredictable.”
Nichts.
Mitsotakis defended the workings of the country’s national intelligence service (EYP), saying its operations were essential to the country’s security, despite the misstep of tapping an opposition leader's phone, in what he said was a legal but "politically unacceptable" operation.
Money Quote:
I call it the Madman Theory, Bob. I want the North Vietnamese to believe I've reached the point where I might do anything to stop the war. We'll just slip the word to them that, "for God's sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about communism. We can't restrain him when he's angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button" and Ho Chi Minh himself will be in Paris in two days begging for peace.
A Christian relic, a piece of the True Cross on which the believers say Jesus Christ was crucified would be kept at the Moskva missile cruiser, the Black Sea fleet flagship, archpriest of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Sevastopol District Sergiy Khalyuta told TASS.
Ob sie die Reliquie retten konnten?Jetzt ist der Spott natürlich gewaltig. Hier ist einer meiner Lieblingstweets:
Putin’s 79 dimensional chess continues. In his latest tactical masterpiece he’s lost a naval flagship to a country without a navy
... worauf jemand kommentiert:his best feint yet!(feint = Finte)
Jetzt so: Biden is 'convinced' Putin has decided to invade Ukraine
Oh ok. Na dann. Slam Dunk, sage ich mal!
Wann ist es denn soweit? Frage wegen der Urlaubsplanung.
Speaking at the White House, Biden said the attack could come in the next "week" or "days" and that targets would include the capital Kyiv, "a city of 2.8 million innocent people."
Hmm.
He cited the "significant intelligence capability" of the US government. "We have reason to believe that," he added.
Krass. Meine Güte! Na also mit DER Beweislage, da MUSS man denen ja glauben!
Russia Planning Post-Invasion Arrest and Assassination Campaign in Ukraine, U.S. Officials Say
Seht ihr? Das haben Officials gesagt! Viel belastbarer geht ja wohl kaum!Das hat bestimmt die CIA rausgefunden. Nein, wirklich!
The United States has obtained intelligence that Russia may target prominent political opponents, anti-corruption activists, and Belarusian and Russian dissidents living in exile should it move forward with plans to invade Ukraine, as U.S. President Joe Biden warned on Thursday that the threat of a renewed Russian invasion of the country remains “very high” and could take place within the next several days.
Removal of Content By YouTubeIf we reasonably believe that any Content is in breach of this Agreement or may cause harm to YouTube, our users, or third parties, we may remove or take down some or all of such Content. We will notify you with the reason for our action and give you the opportunity to remedy or stop such behaviour unless we reasonably believe that to do so: (a) would violate the law or the direction of a legal enforcement authority, or would otherwise risk legal liability for YouTube or our Affiliates; (b) would compromise an investigation or the integrity or operation of the Service; or (c) would cause harm to any user, other third party, YouTube or our Affiliates. You can learn more about reporting and enforcement, including how to appeal on the Troubleshooting. page of our Help Center.
“You are in our prayers today. We are grateful for your support and prayer. When situations arise where individuals might not have honorable intentions, I pray for them,” Monster added. “I believe that what the enemy intends for evil, God invariably transforms into good.”
“They are fully compromised end-to-end,” they said. “Maybe the worst I’ve ever seen in my 20-year career.”The engineer pointed the Daily Dot to what they described as Epik’s “entire primary database,” which contains hosting account usernames and passwords, SSH keys, and even some credit card numbers—all stored in plaintext.
The data also includes Auth-Codes, passcodes that are needed to transfer a domain name between registrars. The engineer stated that with all the data in the leak, which also included admin passwords for WordPress logins, any attacker could easily take over the websites of countless Epik customers.
Gunshot Victims Left Waiting as Horse Dewormer Overdoses Overwhelm Oklahoma Hospitals, Doctor Says
'murica, Fuck Yeah!
Campaigners believe that as many as 900 operators, often known as subpostmasters, may have been prosecuted and convicted between 2000 and 2014.
In his written judgment, Lord Justice Holroyde, sitting with Mr Justice Picken and Mrs Justice Farbey, said of the 39 cleared: “Many of these appellants went to prison; those that did not suffered other penalties imposed by the courts; all would have experienced the anxiety associated with what they went through; all suffered financial losses, in some cases resulting in bankruptcy; some suffered breakdowns in family relationships; some were unable to find or retain work as a result of their convictions – causing further financial and emotional burdens; some suffered breakdowns in health; all suffered the shame and humiliation of being reduced from a respected local figure to a convicted criminal; and three … have gone to their graves carrying that burden.”
that US officials have privately concluded that the company is a major provider of offensive hacking tools, knowledge, and even operations to Russian spies. Positive is believed to be part of a constellation of private sector firms and cybercriminal groups that support Russia’s geopolitical goals, and which the US increasingly views as a direct threat.
Oh ach so. Beweise gab es keine. Sie haben "privately concluded". Gut, dass wir das mal geklärt haben.
The ones that stick out are those who still don’t believe the virus is real. The ones who scream at you for a magic medicine and that Joe Biden is going to ruin the USA. All while gasping for breath on 100% Vapotherm. They tell you there must be another reason they are sick. They call you names and ask why you have to wear all that “stuff” because they don’t have COViD because it’s not real. Yes. This really happens.
It has come to the President's attention that Executive Branch agencies have spent millions of taxpayer dollars to date "training" government workers to believe divisive, anti-American propaganda.
Hmm, was meinen sie denn damit ...?The President has directed me to ensure that Federal agencies cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars to fund these divisive, un-American propaganda training sessions. Accordingly, to that end, the Office of Management and Budget will shortly issue more detailed guidance on implementing the President's directive. In the meantime, all agencies are directed to begin to identify all contracts or other agency spending related to any training on "critical race theory/9 "white privilege," or any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil. In addition, all agencies should begin to identify all available avenues within the law to cancel any such contracts and/or to divert Federal dollars away from these un-American propaganda training sessions.
Naja, Learning by Doing, denkt ihr euch jetzt vielleicht. Übung macht den Meister!
The sources said there was little evidence that the President became more skillful or competent in his telephone conversations with most heads of state over time. Rather, he continued to believe that he could either charm, jawbone or bully almost any foreign leader into capitulating to his will
Ja gut, aber was genau hat er denn am Telefon gemacht, was so blöde war? Na genau was ihr jetzt vermutet!Trump incessantly boasted to his fellow heads of state, including Saudi Arabia's autocratic royal heir Mohammed bin Salman and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, about his own wealth, genius, "great" accomplishments as President, and the "idiocy" of his Oval Office predecessors, according to the sources.
Ganz gut:Merkel remained calm and outwardly unruffled in the face of Trump's attacks —"like water off a duck's back," in the words of one source -- and she regularly countered his bluster with recitations of fact.
Erdogan!?!?
The representative survey of 1,640 US adults by YouGov for Yahoo News found that half of respondent Americans who say Fox News is their primary television news source believe the conspiracy theory. It's the largest group responding this way, followed by self-described Republicans and "Voted for Donald Trump in 2016" -- 44% of both those groups said they believed the conspiracy theory was true. Twenty-six percent of respondent Republicans said it was false, and 31% said they weren't sure.
Zwei wichtige Lektionen.
- 60% of adults believe to some extent that the government is misleading the public about the cause of the virus
- 40% believe to some extent the spread of the virus is a deliberate attempt by powerful people to gain control
- 20% believe to some extent that the virus is a hoax
Apple, Google and hundreds of privacy advocates have raised concerns that this risks hackers or even the state itself being able to re-identify anonymised users, and thus learn details about their social circles. But NHSX has consulted ethicists and GCHQ's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on the matter, and believes safeguards are in place to minimise the risk of this happening.
(Danke, Tim)
the lieutenant governor of Texas went on Fox News to argue that he would rather die than see public health measures damage the US economy, and that he believed “lots of grandparents” across the country would agree with him.
In March 2019, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) alerted Citrix they had reason to believe cybercriminals had gained access to the company’s internal network. The FBI told Citrix the hackers likely got in using a technique called “password spraying,” a relatively crude but remarkably effective attack that attempts to access a large number of employee accounts (usernames/email addresses) using just a handful of common passwords.
Bank of America's CEO says that it's saved $2 billion per year by ignoring Amazon and Microsoft and building its own cloud instead
The bank, which has a $10 billion annual tech budget
Was macht man mit so viel Budget?
Right now, the bank estimates its private cloud is 25 to 30% cheaper than public providers, though it also recognizes that probably won't last forever. Still, the company believes the architecture it has built will give it leverage in negotiating contracts with these companies — a process that is already under way, Moynihan said.
I don’t believe most Americans have thought through what a successful campaign to oust Donald Trump would look like. Most casual news consumers can only think of it in terms of Mike Pence becoming president. The real problem would be the precedent of a de facto intelligence community veto over elections, using the lunatic spookworld brand of politics that has dominated the last three years of anti-Trump agitation.
One closely-watched weapon unveiled Tuesday was the Dongfeng-17, a glider capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Foreign analysts say is designed to maneuver at high speed to evade anti-missile defenses.Another missile displayed, the Dongfeng-41, is believed to have a range of up to 15,000 kilometers (9,400 miles), which would make it world’s longest-range military missile. Analysts say it may be able to carry as many as 10 warheads to hit separate targets.
A federal appeals court has ruled in favor of three Fresno police officers who were accused of stealing more than $225,000 in cash and rare coins during an investigation into an alleged illegal gambling operation in 2013.
Un-fucking-believable! What the FUCK!At the time of the investigation, police said they seized $50,000 and booked it into evidence. But Jessop and Ashjian said they had $151,380 in cash and another $125,000 in rare coins, according to court documents. They believe the three officers pocketed all but $50,000.[...]
They filed a civil lawsuit in 2015 after they discovered one of the officers, Kumagai, was arrested on a federal charge of taking a $20,000 bride from a drug dealer. He later pleaded guilty, and is no longer a Fresno police officer.
To serve and protect! America's finest!
Meanwhile, in mature democracies, support for free speech is ebbing, especially among the young, and outright hostility to it is growing. Nowhere is this more striking than in universities in the United States. In a Gallup poll published last year, 61% of American students said that their campus climate prevented people from saying what they believe, up from 54% the previous year. Other data from the same poll may explain why. Fully 37% said it was “acceptable” to shout down speakers they disapproved of to prevent them from being heard, and an incredible 10% approved of using violence to silence them. Many students justify this by arguing that some speakers are racist, homophobic or hostile to other disadvantaged groups. This is sometimes true. But the targets of campus outrage have often been reputable, serious thinkers. Heather Mac Donald, for example, who argues that “Black Lives Matter” protests prompted police to pull back from high-crime neighbourhoods, and that this allowed the murder rate to spike, had to be evacuated from Claremont McKenna College in California in a police car. Furious protesters argued that letting her speak was an act of “violence” that denied “the right of black people to exist”.
That afternoon, Floquenbeam unblocked Fram.
“I believed the unblock was necessary to force the WMF to take that overwhelming community support for an unblock seriously,” Floquenbeam told BuzzFeed News in an email. “Historically, the WMF has been fairly immune to people just saying they're unhappy.”
Shortly after midnight on June 12, the foundation reblocked Fram, and removed Floquenbeam's administrator rights for a month for reversing its action. That morning, another admin, Bishonen, unblocked Fram yet again
Much of that blame fell, perhaps predictably, on a woman and a transgender editor. In 2017, a fledgling Wikipedian accused Fram of monitoring her activity on the site to such an extent that felt like harassment. The editor, whose contributions focused on women athletes, lesbian history, and abortion rights, felt that Fram’s pattern of correcting her spelling and deleting her stubs — short, unfinished articles that are culled when they sit dormant for too long — demonstrated a lack of good faith.[...]
More recently, Fram had an acrimonious semantic debate with a high-profile transgender editor over whether referring to them as “xe” constituted misgendering. It culminated in an ugly claim by Fram that he would not be misracing a black person by calling them the n-word, only being racist.
Intel´s secret sauce is not a single ingredient. Rather, it is the six pillars of innovation — process, architecture, memory, interconnect, security, and software
For multi-threaded workloads, such as heavy content creation workloads, AMD´s Matisse is expected to lead.
They´re using their 7nm process, and with that they get a per-core frequency bump and lower power, which means they can scale to more cores per processor. […] Therefore, on workloads that are heavily threaded, including heavy content creation and most server workloads, they´ll get great performance results. And on price, we expect their pricing to be significantly below ours. So they´ll likely get good performance-per-dollar. That´s what they´re going to compete on, and that´s the risk to Intel.[…]
I also believe AMD´s comeback was a result of being very product-centric. A top priority for AMD was building great products — high-performance compute and graphics solutions — from definition to development to delivery.
[…]
Intel is a premium brand. At times, and on some workloads, we might dip below on performance, like the second half of this year.
Wait, what!?
Marine experts in Norway believe they have stumbled upon a white whale that was trained by the Russian navy as part of a programme to use underwater mammals as a special ops force.
“Why should the Left automatically accept this idea that patriotism is bad? Patriotism means for me that you have great trust in the greatness of your nation, for example what Angela Merkel did: accepting one million refugees, this is true patriotism: trusting in the greatness, tolerance, productivity of Germany.” On this he goes for checkmate: “My point is to label anti-immigrant populists as non-patriotic. They don’t trust their own nation. How can you believe like Trump in American greatness, if when a couple of thousand refugees are approaching your border you proclaim a state of emergency?”
iPhone users are already using Apple’s Wallet app, Apple Pay, and Apple Pay Cash — wouldn’t they like an Apple credit card, too? The Cupertino company and bank partner Goldman Sachs believe the answer is “yes,” so they’ve teamed up for Apple Card.
Da wächst zusammen, was zusammen gehört! Na? Are you blown away yet?
Pompeo told CBN News he believes it is "certainly" possible that Trump may be the modern-day Queen Esther set in place to defend Israel from Iran.
In the interview with Playboy magazine from 1971, the actor born Marion Morrison states, among other things “I believe in white supremacy” and calls Midnight Cowboy “a story about two fags”.
WAYNE: With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.
Klar. Darum ging es aber nicht. Playboy hat übrigens direkt nachgehakt:
PLAYBOY: Are you equipped to judge which blacks are irresponsible and which of their leaders inexperienced?
WAYNE: It's not my judgment. The academic community has developed certain tests that determine whether the blacks are sufficiently equipped scholastically. But some blacks have tried to force the issue and enter college when they haven't passed the tests and don't have the requisite background.
PLAYBOY: How do they get that background?
WAYNE: By going to school. I don't know why people insist that blacks have been forbidden their right to go to school. They were allowed in public schools wherever I've been. Even if they don't have the proper credentials for college, there are courses to help them become eligible. But if they aren't academically ready for that step, I don't think they should be allowed in. Otherwise, the academic society is brought down to the lowest common denominator.
South Korea is famous for its cosmetic surgery industry, with as many as one third of young women in the country believed to have gone under the knife.
Senior officials at the bank, including its future chief executive, believed that Mr. Trump’s divisive candidacy made such a loan too risky, the people said. Among their concerns was that if Mr. Trump won the election and then defaulted, Deutsche Bank would have to choose between not collecting on the debt or seizing the assets of the president of the United States.
Many of those [companies] that filed reports with CDP said they believe climate change can bolster demand for their products.
Abwegig? Merck z.B.:“As the climate changes, there will be expanded markets for products for tropical and weather related diseases including waterborne illness,” wrote Merck & Co.
As people begin to experience severe weather events with greater frequency, we expect an increasing need for confidence and preparedness in the arena of personal safety and the well-being of loved ones,’’ the company wrote. Its mobile devices “can serve as a flashlight or a siren; they can provide first aid instructions; they can act as a radio; and they can be charged for many days via car batteries or even hand cranks.’’
Kapitalismus, Fuck Yeah!
“If customers value Google Earth Engine as a tool to examine the physical changes to the Earth’s natural resources and climate, this could result in increased customer loyalty or brand value,” Google wrote. “This opportunity driver could have a positive impact on our brands.”
Wait, what?!
A gynaecologist with a hunch suspected that patients with unexplained infertility might fall pregnant more easily once the body had experienced pregnancy. Therefore patients with infertility were given a combination of hormones for a few months. After they stopped taking the hormones a number later became pregnant.
However, there was a problem – the early forms of the pill had significantly higher doses than today’s versions. This meant that women in this trial had early pregnancy symptoms, including morning sickness. This gave many distressing false hope. First they believed they were pregnant when taking hormones, and then discovered they weren’t when they stopped. So it was suggested that allowing the women on these early pills to take a monthly break could assure them they were not pregnant. Thus, the seven-day break was born

From 2007 to 2012, the DIA spent $22 million on the activity, formally known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
Wieso würden die Kohle auf sowas verbrennen? Die Antwort ist recht einfach:It was apparently initiated at the behest of then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, with most of the funding directed to a Nevada constituent of his.
Yesterday, the DIA released a list of 38 research titles funded by the program, many of which are highly conjectural and well beyond the boundaries of current science, engineering — or military intelligence. One such title, “Traversable Wormholes, Stargates, and Negative Energy,” was prepared by Dr. Eric Davis, who has also written on “psychic teleportation.”
I want to believe!
The exotic matter threading a traversable wormhole throat produces repulsive gravity, which will then deflect light rays going through and around it.

The child “believed these purchases were being made with virtual currency, and that his mother’s credit card was not being charged for these purchases,” according to a previous ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Beth Freeman. When the bill came, his mom requested Facebook refund the money, saying she never authorized any charges beyond the original $20. But the company never refunded any money, forcing the family to file a lawsuit in pursuit of a refund.

More than 1,100 cables were supplied to the Times by the security firm Area 1 after it discovered the breach, the newspaper said, adding that Area 1 investigators believed the hackers worked for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
The hackers also infiltrated the networks of the UN, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), and ministries of foreign affairs and finance worldwide, the report added.
Akt 2: bahnhof.se blockt Sci-Hub und Elsevier.
To as icing on this revenge-flavored cake, Bahnhof also detects attempts to visit its own site from the Patent and Market Court and redirects them to a page explaining that since the Patent and Market Court believes that parts of the web should be blocked, Bahnhof is blocking the court's access to its part of the web.
Das finde ich eine gute Idee.
Nein, kein Scherz.
It said a bug in its software meant information that people believed was private had been accessible by third parties.Google said up to 500,000 users had been affected.
Also … alle? Jeder zweimal?
The WSJ quoted an internal Google memo that said doing so would draw “immediate regulatory interest”.
Is this research poposal ethical?"
Und da tritt der Effekt auch auf.
When blue dots became rare, purple dots began to look blue; when threatening faces became rare, neutral faces began to appear threatening; and when unethical research proposals became rare, ambiguous research proposals began to seem unethical. This happened even when the change in the prevalence of instances was abrupt, even when participants were explicitly told that the prevalence of instances would change, and even when participants were instructed and paid to ignore these changes.
Und DAS, meine Damen und Herren, ist GANZ krasse Scheiße. Dieser Effekt könnte der Grund für die Existenz des Konzepts "Microaggressions" sein!in 1960, Webster’s dictionary defined “aggression” as “an unprovoked attack or invasion,” but today that concept can include behaviors such as making insufficient eye contact or asking people where they are from. Many other concepts, such as abuse, bullying, mental disorder, trauma, addiction, and prejudice, have expanded of late as well.
Although modern societies have made extraordinary progress in solving a wide range of social problems, from poverty and illiteracy to violence and infant mortality, the majority of people believe that the world is getting worse. The fact that concepts grow larger when their instances grow smaller may be one source of that pessimism.
The Brazil of mid-2018 is a frightened, leaderless, shockingly pessimistic country. It is a country where four years of scandal, violence and economic destruction have obliterated faith in not just President Michel Temer, not just the political class, but in democracy itself. It is a country where there will be elections in October, but most voters profess little faith in any of the candidates. Given that vacuum, many Brazilians – perhaps 40 percent of them, according to a new private poll circulating among worried politicians – believe the military should somehow act to restore order. Amid this week’s strike, the clamor became so loud that both Temer and a senior military official had to publicly deny the possibility of an imminent coup.
A man charged with impersonating an officer got out of jail on electronic monitoring to work at what Cook County authorities now believe is a fake police department in rural Pembroke Township, Illinois. Population: 2,000.
Ellis’ attorney La Coulton Walls countered that state law allowed the township to create its own police department and that the “white racist Kankakee County” sheriff’s office had no authority to say otherwise.
We launched The Day for schools and colleges to help explain current affairs in short articles written and illustrated with great care by our own staff writers and graphic artists; to be a serious briefing service for everyone, not just the people at the top of the pyramid; to help replace the conversation many do not have at home; to pick out the underlying issues that are shaping the world; and to help readers ask good questions rather than believe they have the answers. Our mission is to help students think about what they can see and hear around them in the news day by day
(Danke, Sabine)
"There is credible evidence that leads me to believe that Broadcom Ltd.," by acquiring Qualcomm, "might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States," Trump said in the order released Monday evening in Washington.
National Security!
Toller Fnord am Rande:
The American was able to identify a hacker in Germany who claimed to have access to some of the stolen data believed to be held by the Shadow Brokers, and who accurately provided advance notice of several Shadow Broker data releases. The hacker’s cooperation with the U.S. intelligence community broke down over his demands for full immunity from U.S. prosecution for his hacking activities — negotiations that failed largely because the hacker refused to provide his full personal identification to the Americans.
HAHAHAHA
“Even facts that are easy to verify, like where Donald Trump is from,” he said. “They do it like ‘maybe he’s from Brooklyn, maybe he’s from Queens, different people say different things.’ ” It’s meant to confuse so that the viewer doesn’t believe in any objective truth — so that objective truth begins not to matter.”
(Danke, Markus)https://meltdownattack.com/meltdown.pdf
Seite 11: "On such systems, an attacker can use Meltdown to dump the entire physical memory, simply by reading from virtual addresses starting at 0xffff 8800 0000 0000."
https://googleprojectzero.blogspot.de/2018/01/reading-privileged-memory-with-side.html
"PoC for variant 3 that, when running with normal user privileges, can read kernel memory on the Intel Haswell Xeon CPU under some precondition. We believe that this precondition is that the targeted kernel memory is present in the L1D cache."
https://github.com/paboldin/meltdown-exploit
fd = open("/proc/version", O_RDONLY); … ret = pread(fd, buf, sizeof(buf), 0); if (ret < 0) { perror("pread"); break; }https://github.com/Frichetten/meltdown-poc
+ int fd = open("/proc/version", O_RDONLY); + int ret = 0; + char thing[256]; + ret = pread(fd, thing, sizeof(thing), 0);"Added the ability to dump the linux_proc_banner"
Andrew Stirling believes that there was a crucial, largely unspoken, reason for the government’s rediscovered passion for nuclear: without a civil nuclear industry, a nation cannot sustain military nuclear capabilities. In other words, no new nuclear power plants would spell the end of Trident. “The only countries in the world that are currently looking at large-scale civil power newbuild programmes are countries that have nuclear submarines, or have an expressed aim of acquiring them,” Stirling told me.
Ach SO ist das!
Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, one of the most senior Saudi royals detained in the kingdom’s corruption crackdown, has been released after reaching a settlement deal believed to exceed the equivalent of $1 billion, an official involved in the anti-graft campaign said.
For the discourse style to shift toward female, the group has to be over 60% women, and include an active female moderator, Spender found in her studies. “Otherwise,” she says, “digital man-spreading prevails.”While most of the men I queried said they don’t believe gender influences Slack behavior, some actively work to prevent mansplaining, and promote women’s ideas.
(Danke, Kris)
Writing in the party’s official mouthpiece, the People’s Daily, Chen Xi accused some officials of becoming politically and morally “degraded” and of looking to religion, superstition and – perhaps even worse – western-style multi-party democracy as their faith in socialism faded.“Some don’t believe in Marx and Lenin but believe in ghosts and gods; they don’t believe in ideals but believe in sorcery; they don’t respect the people but do respect masters,” wrote Chen, who was last month handed a spot on China’s 25-member Politburo.
Others accused him of being a “globalist,” a word that has taken on many definitions but in this case meant he was part of a vast, arcane conspiracy. They believed that establishment politicians wanted to turn red states like Idaho blue by starting wars and then importing refugees from those war zones as cheap labor who would not only displace American workers but also reliably vote Democratic.
“I can’t even believe I have to write this: standing up to Nazis is essential; there are no good Nazis. Or Klansmen, or terrorists. Democrats, Republicans, and others must all agree on this, and it compromises nothing for them to do so.”
In the spring of 2014, Jordan Younger noticed that her hair was falling out in clumps. “Not cool” was her reaction. At the time, Younger, 23, believed herself to be eating the healthiest of all possible diets. She was a “gluten-free, sugar-free, oil-free, grain-free, legume-free, plant-based raw vegan”. As The Blonde Vegan, Younger was a “wellness” blogger in New York City, one of thousands on Instagram (where she had 70,000 followers) rallying under the hashtag #eatclean. Although she had no qualifications as a nutritionist, Younger had sold more than 40,000 copies of her own $25, five-day “cleanse” programme – a formula for an all-raw, plant-based diet majoring on green juice.
When I previously tried to
report bugs in exiv2 found via fuzzing the upstream author made it
clear to me that he has little interest in fixing those issues and
doesn't consider his software suitable to parse defect files (which
basically means it's unsuitable for untrusted input).
Weil Das Bugtracking-System so schnarchlahm ist, hier ein paar Money Quotes:Returning to Hanno's request that we say that Exiv2 is "not suitable for untrusted input". I will not do that. The default (for all open source software) is that the user must determine suitability for his/her purposes. We do not claim that Exiv2 is safe for all files. I doubt if we could ever make such a claim even if we pepper our code with checks for malicious images. I don't believe in 2016 that it is possible to guarantee the safety and reliability of any software.
UndI know nothing about hacking and exploiting buffer overflows. Perhaps we need more caution about them. This is a mind-boggling issue. The code to defend our image read/write code could be larger than the current library.
Wie schlimm ist es? So schlimm:Are you aware of the term "fuzzing"? I believe this is the art of creating illegal files to put software under stress. I am aware that libexiv2 can be exploited in this way, however I have never had time to work on this topic.
In den USA gibt es eine Margarine-Sorte namens I can't believe it's not butter! :-)
US investigators believe Russian hackers breached Qatar's state news agency and planted a fake news report that contributed to a crisis among the US' closest Gulf allies, according to US officials briefed on the investigation.
It isn’t a traditional left-right political axis, she found. There are right-wing sites like Danger & Play and left-wing sensationalizers such as The Free Thought Project. Some appear to be just trying to make money, while others are aggressively pushing political agendas. The true common denominator, she found, is anti-globalism — deep suspicion of free trade, multinational business and global institutions.
“To be antiglobalist often included being anti-mainstream media, anti-immigration, anti-science, anti-U.S. government, and anti-European Union,” Starbird says.
UndStarbird is publishing her paper as a sort of warning. The information networks we’ve built are almost perfectly designed to exploit psychological vulnerabilities to rumor.“Your brain tells you ‘Hey, I got this from three different sources,’ ” she says. “But you don’t realize it all traces back to the same place, and might have even reached you via bots posing as real people. If we think of this as a virus, I wouldn’t know how to vaccinate for it.”
Starbird says she’s concluded, provocatively, that we may be headed toward “the menace of unreality — which is that nobody believes anything anymore.” Alex Jones, she says, is “a kind of prophet. There really is an information war for your mind. And we’re losing it.”
Although,” she added, as I was getting out of the cab, “there are also many who believe that Mr Trump is not Nebuchadnezzar but a Cyrus.” Nebuchadnezzar, I remembered, had destroyed the first temple in Jerusalem, forcing the Jews into the Babylonian captivity.Cyrus, the pagan Persian king who was called “the Great,” had conquered Babylon in 539 BC, freed the Jews, and returned them to Jerusalem where they would rebuild the temple. He might not have been one of God’s people, the thinking among some Christians goes, but he still served God’s plans.
Beispielsweise:
All tools must utilize Operating System (OS) provided cryptographic primitives where available (e.g., Microsoft CryptoAPI-NG, OpenSSL, PolarSSL, GnuTLS, etc).Dass sie da Polarssl und Gnutls explizit nennen, finde ich erstaunlich.
Messages should be compressed prior to encryption.
Tools should perform key exchange exactly once per connection. Many algorithms have weaknesses during key exchange and the volume of data expected during a given connection does not meet the threshold where a re-key is required. To reiterate, re-keying is not recommended.
Da müsste man mal drüber diskutieren.
The Collection Encryption Suite is intended to safeguard collected information as it resides temporarily on an untrusted file system or as it transits a file-oriented communication mechanism (e.g., gap jumpers, bit torrent, HTTP post, etc.).
Oh, ach?
In particular, the justification that an attacker might hook the OS provided cryptographic API to perform reverse engineering of the implant is not acceptable; any service (including execution) provided by the OS may be subverted and the security of a proven library outweighs the risk of attack.
Nein, wirklich!
The digest is calculated over the ciphertext vice plaintext in order to protect against a SIGINT actor with access to a compromised host obtaining any information about the transfer. Using the example of an exfiltrated file (and depending on communication protocols) it is possible that a SIGINT actor could compare the hash value of every file on the compromised host to the intercepted message and thereby determine which file was exfiltrated. Calculating the digest over the ciphertext eliminates this possible information leakage without altering difficulty of implementation. See also the various debates about Encrypt-and-MAC, MAC-then-Encrypt, and Encrypt-then-MAC. The IV is authenticated by the digest in order to prevent a manipulated IV from flipping bits in the first block of the plaintext upon decryption under certain modes.
This makes tool X very valuable in those countries known to routinely MitM SSL (e.g., China, Iran, and other hard targets).
One novel technique seen in the wild and provided purely as an example of a clever solution is the Random Decryption Algorithm (RDA) technique whereby a piece of malware does not possess the decryption key for its own main execution component. This malware is designed to brute force the decryption key, a process that can take several hours on modern hardware and has the added benefit of extreme resiliency to polymorphic detection heuristics and static scanning. Authors who believe they have a particularly novel approach are encouraged to contact the OCRB for a detailed discussion.
Look, I think he is going off of information that he's seen that has led him to believe that this is a very real potential
“So, President Trump,” Chaffetz began, a minute or two into the meeting, before being immediately drowned out by loud boos.“If you want me to answer the question, please give me more than five seconds to answer it, OK?” Chaffetz asked a few minutes later after several people heckled him, claiming he hadn’t adequately answered an audience member’s question about investigating Trump.
Do you believe in science?” asked Hannah Bradshaw.
“It’s been two or three weeks,” she said. “We have a problem child.”Another teacher — Chelsie Acosta, from the Salt Lake area — demanded of Chaffetz that he explain to her how she can "tell (students) about where our country got to today.”
One man asked Chaffetz to investigate Trump’s business interests, calling the president “despicable.” His comment received a standing ovation and chants of “Do your job!”
French police conclude 'anal rape' of suspect with cop's truncheon was an accident
Wie soll man sich das vorstellen? An initial French police investigation has found insufficient evidence to support allegations that a 22-year-old man was anally raped with a police truncheon, a police source said Thursday, suggesting they believe the officer's baton slipped up the man's anus by accident.
Ach sooo.
It's an honor to do this, and, uh, yes, I believe that we have to be honest with the American people, I think sometimes we can disgree with the facts. There are certain things that we may miss… uh… we may we may not fully understand when we come out, but intention is never to lie to you, Jonathan.
Gut, dass wir das mal geklärt haben!
Putin said that Trump wasn’t a politician when he visited Moscow in the past and Russian officials weren’t aware that he held any political ambitions. It’s “complete nonsense” to believe that Russian security services “chase after every American billionaire,” he said.
Das ist ja schonmal schön, aber das eigentlich Highlight ist dieser Spruch hier:Trump is “a grown man, and secondly he’s someone who has been involved with beauty contests for many years and has met the most beautiful women in the world,” Putin said. “I find it hard to believe that he rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world.”
Based on further analysis of this data by the forensic experts, we believe an unauthorized third party, in August 2013, stole data associated with more than one billion user accounts.
Holla! Sportlich!
Park's office said the pills were bought to potentially treat altitude sickness for presidential aides and employees on Park's May trips to Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya, whose capitals are 1 to 2 kilometres (0.6 to 1.2 miles) above sea level.
Der lustige Teil ist der hier:South Korean doctors sometimes prescribe Viagra-style drugs to climbers because they are believed to be effective in preventing altitude sickness.
Wait, what?! Leprosy has been found in red squirrels across the British Isles and scientists believe they have been infected with the disfiguring disease for centuries.
- A new poll shows some 1/3 of Millennials actually believe President George W. Bush killed more people than Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
- 40% of Millennials don’t even know who Chinese dictator and mass killer Mao Zedong is.
- Under Stalin and Lenin in Russia, 67 million people died, and Mao Zedong killed another 35-45 million people.
- So why do young people believe this? Because our education system is failing to tell the real story behind these socialist dictators.
Mwahahaha, wie geil ist DAS denn! Da hilft nur … Homeschooling!
Also nicht deine eigenen E-Mails leaken.
I’m a big believer in leaks for the public interest. That’s why I support Snowden, and why I believe the President should pardon him. But I can’t for the life of me see the public good in a leak like this — at least one that reveals no crime or violation of any important public policy. We all deserve privacy. The burdens of public service are insane enough without the perpetual threat that every thought shared with a friend becomes Twitter fodder. Neera has only ever served in the public (and public interest) sector. Her work has always and only been devoted to advancing her vision of the public good. It is not right that she should bear the burden of this sort of breach.
Well played, sir.
Donald Trump claimed he was a “brave soldier” for avoiding STDs during his single years in the late ’90s.“It’s amazing, I can’t even believe it. I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world, it is a dangerous world out there. It’s like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave solider,” Trump said in the interview when Howard Stern asked how he handled making sure he wasn’t contracting STDs from the women he was sleeping with.
Na? Geht da noch was? Da geht noch was! Wieviel geht da noch? Na zumindest soviel hier!
City Controller Scott Stringer conducted a review of hundreds of pages of previously sealed records of the two main 9/11 charities at the request of the Daily News, and found that Trump and his charity hadn't donated a dime in the months after 9/11.
On October 2, Peshmerga fighters operating against ISIS near Erbil, Iraq, shot down a small hobby drone, the kind you might buy off of Amazon. But when they investigated the downed device, it exploded, killing them and injuring two French paratroopers, based out of Orleans, according to Le Monde. With that unfortunate blast, it is believed, ISIS claimed its first casualties via a weaponized hobby drone.
The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts. These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia's senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.
A lack of understanding by at least some UK ministers over how the union works and unwillingness to believe what they’re being told by their civil servants is contributing to contradictory statements from London, Tomas Prouza, state secretary for EU affairs in Prague, said in an interview Wednesday. There’s a very low chance for British financial institutions and other companies to keep unhindered access to the free-trade zone, he said.
Megaupload founder never came to US to face charges, so he's a "fugitive."
Jurisprudenz Marke John Wayne!
Money Quote:
Under American law, authorities can seize cash and items of value if they are believed to be ill-gotten, even without filing any criminal charges.
Men's historical dominance of the workplace may, in part, be because of their ability to reconcile with enemies after conflict, a new study suggests.
Wait, what? Researchers examined the aftermath of same-sex sporting events and found that men spent longer talking, touching or embracing their opponents than women. These efforts to patch things up ensure the males can then co-operate more successfully in the future.
The authors believe that this trait has been carried down through the years.
Faszinierend.
The administration will announce that since Jan. 20, 2009, it believes airstrikes have killed roughly 100 civilians in countries including Yemen, Pakistan, Libya, and Somalia, according to one defense official.
Soll das ein Scherz sein? Nur 100?It’s a figure many advocacy groups are likely to see as too low to be credible. Most independent estimates as closer to 1,000.
Kann man so sagen, ja.
The man believed to be Hezbollah's most senior military commander in Syria's war has been killed in Damascus.
Nanu? Wer denn dann? The Avengers?
Springer believes that its collection provides an excellent price-quality ratio for UdeM based on the 2,266 journals available in their bundle. UdeM Libraries sees things differently because it only considers, in its assessment, titles that meet the needs of its community. A survey conducted recently with the university community established that only 256 titles (or 11.6%) within the Springer collection are needed for research and teaching at UdeM. Part of the strategy of commercial publishers is to increase the number of journals in their bundle to justify their exorbitant rates.Average cost for viewing or printing articles at UdeM also confirms the unjustified pricing: Springer’s articles end up being 225% more expensive at UdeM compared to Elsevier’s. Université de Sherbrooke and UQAM libraries have cancelled their subscriptions to Springer’s collection.
Wow.
The software let him quickly change names, profile pictures, and biographies to fit any need. Eventually, he discovered, he could manipulate the public debate as easily as moving pieces on a chessboard—or, as he puts it, “When I realized that people believe what the Internet says more than reality, I discovered that I had the power to make people believe almost anything.”
(Danke, Jens)
Back in 2009, as China unleashed a massive fiscal stimulus and investment spree in response to the global financial crisis, the rest of the world was all too willing to believe the impossible. Aided by consultant research predicting decades of explosive growth, companies placed huge bets on China and expected to ride the never-ending boom to riches.
Wie, Wunder gibt es gar nicht?! Moan ey! Da werden die Investoren aber unzufrieden sein!
An astrologer who claims to have predicted the Paris terror attacks says a natural catastrophe could wreak havoc on Northern Europe as a result of this week's solar eclipse.British Cosmobiologist Peter Stockinger says the stars are aligned for a significant event on Wednesday, March 9.
He believes that was well as a serious weather event, a prominent assassination could occur.
Haha, geil, "Cosmobiologist"!
“We believe strongly in freedom of speech and freedom to express unpopular, and even offensive, views. However, unnecessarily divisive, counterproductive, and even hateful speech runs contrary to our mission and the environment we wish to foster at NECSS. The sentiments expressed in the video do not represent the values of NECSS or its sponsoring organisations.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecJUqhm2g08
Zitat: "I say social justice - I say jihad"
George W. Bush personally rejected two techniques in the CIA's proposed enhanced interrogation program. (One of them was believed to have been “mock executions.” The accepted proposals, including waterboarding, have been roundly criticized as torture.)
Now retired, Mr Reed firmly believes that the business logic behind the transaction was flawed, and that the old Glass-Steagall division should be reinstated. Mr Reed first expressed this view soon after the crisis erupted. Last year Sandy Weill, the other main architect of the Citicorp-Travelers deal, changed his position to support breaking up the banks.
PETA doesn’t shoot themselves in the foot because they’re stupid. They shoot themselves in the foot because they’re traveling up an incentive gradient that rewards them for doing so, even if it destroys their credibility.
In the same way, publicizing how strongly you believe an accusation that is obviously true signals nothing. Even hard-core anti-feminists would believe a rape accusation that was caught on video. A moral action that can be taken just as well by an outgroup member as an ingroup member is crappy signaling and crappy identity politics. If you want to signal how strongly you believe in taking victims seriously, you talk about it in the context of the least credible case you can find.
Nun, was kann man dagegen tun?
For the lulz, sozusagen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQqxlzHJrU0&feature=youtu.be&t=47m46sMoney Quote: "Everyone on the left at the moment seems to be a mindreader"
Guardian-Artikel:
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/11/mainstream-left-silencing-sympathetic-voices
"If leftwingers like me are condemned as rightwing, then what’s left?"Money Quote: "This shame comes from the phenomenon of what I call assumption creep – the assumption that if you believe one thing you probably believe another thing, which you are hiding."
Es gibt auch einen Begriff dafür: Kafkatrapping:
http://www.thedailybell.com/editorials/35550/Wendy-McElroy-Beware-of-Kafkatrapping"It occurs when you are accused of a thought crime such as sexism, racism or homophobia. You respond with an honest denial, which is then used as further confirmation of your guilt. You are now trapped in a circular and unfalsifiable argument; no one who is accused can be innocent because the structure of kafkatrapping precludes that possibility."
Yes….I believe we can pray potholes away. Moses prayed and a sea opened up. #iseeya #itrustHim #prayerworks
The shootout with the police was highly exaggerated and in fact no one was even hit by a bullet, let alone harmed by one. The Police knew me and I don’t believe their hearts were truly in the shootout, as it is not included in the official report. When I ran out of ammunition, I surrendered quietly and the officers and my self had a cigarette together and joked about my bad aim.
Und weiter unten:At the sound of gunshots I naturally assumed that my ex wife had caught up with me and returned fire. Who wouldn’t. The only casualty was a 50 mph speed limit sign that0 intervened between myself and my presumed ex wife. I can’t shoot for shit on Xanax.
OBAMA: Well, I - you know, obviously the - the whole debate that's been taking place about the European Union, the eurozone, Greece that's a complicated piece of business. I will say this, that having the United Kingdom in the European Union gives us much greater confidence about the strength of the transatlantic union and is part of the cornerstone of institutions built after World War II that has made the world safer and more prosperous. And we want to make sure that United Kingdom continues to have that influence. Because we believe that the values that we share are the right ones, not just for ourselves, but for Europe as a whole and the world as a whole.
Consider the case of milk. Greeks enjoy their fresh milk, produced locally and delivered quickly. But Dutch and other European milk producers would like to increase sales by having their milk, transported over long distances and far less fresh, appear to be just as fresh as the local product. In 2014 the troika forced Greece to drop the label “fresh” on its truly fresh milk and extend allowable shelf life. Now it is demanding the removal of the five-day shelf-life rule for pasteurized milk altogether. Under these conditions, large-scale producers believe they can trounce Greece’s small-scale producers.
(Danke, Oliver)
Two current or former Rotherham councillors are among up to 300 men suspected of grooming and sexually exploiting girls as young as 12 in the South Yorkshire town, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Oh, Politiker sind verstrickt? Also DAMIT konnte ja wohl NIEMAND rechnen!Investigators said the majority of suspects appeared to be of Asian appearance, but would not give a firm number while research was still being done on further potential suspects.Detectives believe there are at least 1,400 victims, largely vulnerable white girls; this tallies with the conservative estimate given by Jay, the former chief social work adviser for Scotland, in August last year.
No arrests have yet been made as part of the operation but Baldwin said officers were concentrating on those perpetrators who continue to present the biggest risk to children.
Na dann. (Danke, Simon)
We just publish what we believe to be the position of the British government.
Keine weiteren Fragen, Euer Ehren!
In the last year and a half, they have acquired hundreds of reports, videos, and 911 calls related to the Seattle Police Department's internal investigations of officer misconduct between 2010 and 2013. And though they have only combed through a small portion of the data, they say they have found several instances of officers appearing to lie, use racist language, and use excessive force—with no consequences. In fact, they believe that the Office of Professional Accountability (OPA) has systematically "run interference" for cops. In the aforementioned cases of alleged officer misconduct, all of the involved officers were exonerated and still remain on the force.
Specifically, the order says an individual can be sanctioned if the government believes them to be involved in a cyberattack that harms, compromises or disrupts a computer network integral to critical US infrastructure. Also subject to sanctions, however, are any persons purported to have electronically pilfered or otherwise intercepted trade secrets or financial information with the intent of achieving monetary gain.
“I think these bills are horrible,” said Dusty Dionne, High Priest and High Summoner of the Aquarian Tabernacle Church of Washington State. “But if they are going to open up this can of worms, we are going to shove it right in their face.”
Many of us believe that love is the law. Though it is not a quote-unquote Wiccan tenet to have polyamorous marriages, it is under Wiccan law that love is the law,” he said. “Whatever we want to do with marriage we can do. Carte Blanche. If I want to marry a horse, I can marry a horse.”
The FBI said they do not believe the incident is related to terrorism. Law enforcement sources say there are initial indications that the vehicle used by the suspects was stolen. The FBI evidence response team is on the scene investigating and testing for the possible presence of drugs.
In a speech in Chicago, Mr Bush outlined a broad strategy of projecting American power and addressing "the shortfalls in our defence spending".[…]
"I believe fundamentally that weakness invites war … and strength encourages peace," Mr Bush said.
Frieden durch überlegene Feuerkraft!
we will not address agency personnel matters in a petition response, because we do not believe this is the appropriate forum in which to do so.
D'Hooghe told the Sunday Times that he believed the painting given to him, was "absolutely ugly" and he believed it had no value. He said he had not voted for the Russian bid.
Ach so, na dann.
It also claims England's bid used private security companies and a former member of the UK government's intelligence service MI6 to gather information on its rivals.
Qatar war besonders innovativ:Under the heading, "Intelligence relating to Russia 2018" a series of allegations are revealed about Putin's role in brokering a major bilateral trade deal for gas with Qatar, the winners of the 2022 bid, in exchange for each others votes and the votes of others of their supporters.
Then again I could just recall that John Stuart Mill was moved to remark to the House of Commons: “What I stated was, that the Conservative party was, by the law of its constitution, necessarily the stupidest party. Now, I do not retract this assertion; but I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it.” (My emphasis).
Das stimmt offensichtlich hüben wie drüben.
The U.S. government threatened to fine Yahoo $250,000 a day in 2008 if it failed to comply with a broad demand to hand over user communications — a request the company believed was unconstitutional — according to court documents unsealed Thursday that illuminate how federal officials forced American tech companies to participate in the National Security Agency’s controversial PRISM program.
Only half of Americans believe that Snowden’s leaks served the public interest and the majority of Americans favor criminal prosecution for the whistleblower. It’s unlikely that our willingness to accept online surveillance reflects our trust in the American government, which is at historic lows. More likely, we’ve been taught that this is simply how the Internet works: If we open ourselves to ever-increasing surveillance—whether from corporations or governments—the tools and content we want will remain free of cost.
He also criticized Obama's healthcare policy – a "shit sandwich" – and his administration's approach to global warming. Mitchell believes it's a myth.
It said Mitchell and Jessen had "probably misrepresented" their "expertise" as experienced interrogators when pitching coercive techniques to the CIA as a way to obtain actionable intelligence from prisoners.
In one tactic, the NSA “geolocates” the SIM card or handset of a suspected terrorist’s mobile phone
the NSA often locates drone targets by analyzing the activity of a SIM card, rather than the actual content of the calls. Based on his experience, he has come to believe that the drone program amounts to little more than death by unreliable metadata.
Under the proposals, nationalised British subjects could be stripped of their passports if the home secretary believes they are acting in a way which "seriously prejudices" the national interest.
(Danke, Michael)
Nun, was tut man in so einem Fall? Zucker draufkippen.
The shutdown was part of the plant’s protective system, and the offline reactor is being powered by an emergency diesel generator. No radiation is believed to have been released.
The basic lesson of game theory for a game of bluff like that of espionage is that, as long as it is possible for counterspies to generate misleading information most of the time, spies are useless even when their information happens to be correct. If the defence plays optimally, the spymaster can never have any reason to believe one piece of information produced by spies and disbelieve another.
The mining firm said it still believes in having a price on carbon, but any policy should be trade friendly and revenue neutral.
Äh … ah so. Öhm. Na denn…
Asked by Udall whether it was the NSA's aim to collect the records of all Americans, Alexander replied: "I believe it is in the nation's best interest to put all the phone records into a lockbox – yes."
"We believe NSA has not lost any credibility as a neutral arbiter and technical capability adviser. We continue to partner with federal organizations, private industry and academia," NSA spokeswoman Vanee Vines said.
Gut, welche Glaubwürdigkeit, könnte man da jetzt fragen.
University of Washington researchers have performed what they believe is the first noninvasive human-to-human brain interface, with one researcher able to send a brain signal via the Internet to control the hand motions of a fellow researcher.
“First, your honor, I want to start off with an apology,” he said. “I’m sorry that my actions hurt people and I’m sorry that it hurt the United States. I understood what I was doing and the decision that I made. I’m sorry for the unintended consequences of my actions… When I made these decisions I believed I was going to help people, not hurt people."
“There’s a young generation who believes he’s some kind of Jason Bourne,” the Arizona Republican said during on “Fox News Sunday,".[…]
“Right now there’s kind of a generational change. Young Americans do not trust this government,” Mr. McCain said. “Without trusting government you can’t do a lot of things.”
That was obvious when Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., asked Litt whether he really believed the government could keep such a vast surveillance program a secret forever."Well," Litt replied, "we tried."
Litt ist der Justiziar der NSA. (Danke, Mathias)
A combination of the recession and growing awareness in the shipping industry about climate change emissions encouraged many ship owners to adopt "slow steaming" to save fuel two years ago. This lowered speeds from the standard 25 knots to 20 knots, but many major companies have now taken this a stage further by adopting "super-slow steaming" at speeds of 12 knots (about 14mph).
It is believed that [Maersk] has saved more than £65m on fuel since it began its go-slow.
(Danke, Gerry)
"What we learned in there," Sanchez said, "is significantly more than what is out in the media today."Lawmakers are barred from revealing the classified information they receive in intelligence briefings [..]
I can't speak to what we learned in there, and I don't know if there are other leaks, if there's more information somewhere, if somebody else is going to step up, but I will tell you that I believe it's the tip of the iceberg," she said.
Und weiter:Sanchez said lawmakers were "astounded" by what they heard."I think it's just broader than most people even realize, and I think that's, in one way, what astounded most of us, too," Sanchez said of the briefing.
Ecuador is understood to be desperate to negotiate a way for Mr Assange to quit its embassy amicably and is growing frustrated with the lack of progress. Quito sources said they believe Britain is happy to leave Mr Assange marooned.
Konkret:
a proposal to legalize the use of malware in order to punish people believed to be copying illegally. The report proposes that software would be loaded on computers that would somehow figure out if you were a pirate, and if you were, it would lock your computer up and take all your files hostage until you call the police and confess your crime.
Mit anderen Worten: genau wie der BKA-Trojaner.
"Designate one computer to use for Twitter," the company recommends. "Don't use this computer to read email or surf the web, to reduce the chances of malware infection."
Nun, ganz einfach. Wegschmeißen!1!!
He says: "This was a trauma arrest. Multiple injuries, probably we believe a combination of blast, potentially gunshot wounds."How many gunshot wounds?
"Unable to count."
Multiple gunshot wounds?
"Yes - and probably a blast injury also. An explosive device, possibly shrapnel, thermal injury. It was pretty much throughout the trunk, it was multiple wounds."
Police have confirmed that they are carrying out an ongoing manhunt for one of the two suspects in the Boston marathon bombing, and have sealed off a 20-block radius of a suburb of the city where the suspect is believed to be holed up.
Gas Incident across the south eastToday (Tuesday 22 January) a strong smell of gas has been reported across parts of south east England and this is believed to have come from a chemical factory in northern France.
The National Gas Emergency phone line has received an unprecedented number of calls. Today we would have expected to receive around 8,000 - 10,000 calls from across the country. At 14:00 we had already received over 100,000 calls.
[…]
Due to these call volumes, there may be an extended waiting time before a call is answered. Please keep calling this number if you cannot get through the first time.
WTF?
Völlig harmlos also. Weitergehen, gibt nichts zu sehen hier. (Danke, Lutz)
"We believe the orders are without merit, a waste of German taxpayers' money and we will fight it vigorously," a Facebook spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.
Authorities say 33 cans of marijuana were spotted Friday in a field near where the Colorado River crosses the U.S.-Mexico border. They believe the cans were launched about 500 feet into the U.S. using a pneumatic-powered cannon.
Gautier said the platform, owned by Houston-based Black Elk Energy, was not actively producing oil and it is not believed that there is any chance for a major environmental disaster, WWL-TV reported.
The government's main watchdog, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, believes that current storage plans are safe and achievable. But a federal court said that the NRC didn't detail what the environmental consequences would be if the agency is wrong.
The government also argued that it could keep Megaupload in legal limbo indefinitely. "None of the cases impose a time limit on service," the government's attorney told the judge. Therefore, the government believes it can leave the indictment hanging over the company's head, and keep its assets frozen, indefinitely.
Not only that, but the government believes it can continue to freeze Megaupload's assets and paralyze its operations even if the judge grants the motion to dismiss. That's because in the government's view, the assets are the proceeds of criminal activity and the prosecution against founder Kim Dotcom will still be pending. The fact that the assets are in the name of Megaupload rather than its founder is of no consequence, the government claimed.
"This is the most serious (cyber) warning we have ever put out," said Marco Obiso, cyber security coordinator for the U.N.'s Geneva-based International Telecommunications Union.
The confidential warning will tell member nations that the Flame virus is a dangerous espionage tool that could potentially be used to attack critical infrastructure, he told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday.
Dass Reuters das vorab abdruckt."They should be on alert," he said, adding that he believed Flame was likely built on behalf of a nation state.
Bullshit-Bingo vom Feinsten! Wisst ihr, was wir jetzt brauchen? Eine fünffarbige Terrormeter-Warnanzeige für das Internet!1!!
4. The Defendants' conspiracy to limit e-book price competition came together as the Publisher Defendants were jointly devising schemes to limit Amazon's ability to discount ebooks and Defendant Apple was preparing to launch its electronic tablet, the iPad, and considering whether it should sell e-books that could be read on the new device. Apple had long believed it would be able to "trounce Amazon by opening up [its] own ebook store," but the intense price competition that prevailed among e-book retailers in late 2009 had driven the retail price of popular e-books to $9.99 and had reduced retailer margins on e-books to levels that Apple found unattractive. As a result of discussions with the Publisher Defendants, Apple learned that the Publisher Defendants shared a common objective with Apple to limit e-book retail price competition, and that the Publisher Defendants also desired to have popular e-book retail prices stabilize at levels significantly higher than $9.99. Together, Apple and the Publisher Defendants reached an agreement whereby retail price competition would cease (which all the conspirators desired), retail e-book prices would increase significantly (which the Publisher Defendants desired), and Apple would be guaranteed a 30 percent "commission" on each e-book it sold (which Apple desired).
Business as usual! (Danke, Sandro)
“‘Transformational’ is an overused word, but I do believe it properly applies to these technologies,” Petraeus enthused, “particularly to their effect on clandestine tradecraft.”[…]
“Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters — all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing,” Petraeus said, “the latter now going to cloud computing, in many areas greater and greater supercomputing, and, ultimately, heading to quantum computing.”
Das sind die feuchten Träume der CIA-Führung. Und die "Security Nightmares" auf CCC-Congressen. Na prost Mahlzeit.
He's been living for so long with the delusion that the way he makes his money is fair and honest, he's started to believe not only that he deserves his wealth, but the converse – that the poor deserve to be poor.
Und über Gingrich:taken prisoner in war, Newt would be blabbing state secrets without torture within minutes, and minutes after that would be calling his guards idiots who lack his nuanced grasp of European history, and minutes after that would be lying to two of his captors about an affair he had with the third.
Let’s try to think through their logic: Europe, they think, doesn’t really protect Israel. If we are attacked, neither Germany nor France or Britain will come to our defense physically. So what if they don’t like us? As long as Maccabi Tel Aviv can play in the Euroleague and Israel can do business with the EU, friendship and closeness don’t really matter. And they believe that Europe will never impose real sanctions on Israel, because its history with the Jews will always prevent them from doing so.
Und über die Amis:Hasn’t Netanyahu always claimed that the U.S. is not the liberal elites of the East and West Coast, and that the U.S. commitment to Israel is of a religious nature? And aren’t Congress and the breast-beating declaration of undying friendship of Republican presidential candidates proving him right?
Nein, wirklich!
“Protesters who used the Brooklyn Bridge walkway were not arrested,” Paul J. Browne, the chief spokesman for the New York Police Department, said. “Those who took over the Brooklyn-bound roadway, and impeded vehicle traffic, were arrested.”
But many protesters said they believed the police had tricked them, allowing them onto the bridge, and even escorting them partway across, only to trap them in orange netting after hundreds had entered.
“While the narrative voice may have been fictional, the facts on thıs blog are true and not mısleading as to the situation on the ground,” he wrote. “I do not believe that I have harmed anyone — I feel that I have created an important voice for issues that I feel strongly about.”
Grund:
It has taken nuclear power plants so long to go digital because regulators wanted assurances the new control systems were as reliable as the old ones and could not be compromised by hackers.
Aber jetzt wird das anders. Trotz Stuxnet. Grund:The goal of going digital is to save money.
Erstklassige Priorisierung, liebe Amerikaner! Da weiß man, was man hat. Change we can believe in!
On May 10, 2011, a user of Kaixin, the Chinese equivalent of Facebook, posted a version of the rumor on his wall. The post attracted an enormous following, with more than 170,000 views and 40,000 comments.Of the people who left comments, 38.8% believe that Hitler was raised by Chinese, 7.1% believe that Hitler supported China in World War II, 4.6% regard Hitler as a hero, and 9.1% hope that China will have a leader similar to Hitler.
WTF?!?
Israel's daily Maariv published a poll showing about 57 percent of voters believe Netanyahu should have supported Obama's initiative, rather than opposing the president.
But Wyden says that what Congress will renew is a mere fig leaf for a far broader legal interpretation of the Patriot Act that the government keeps to itself — entirely in secret. Worse, there are hints that the government uses this secret interpretation to gather what one Patriot-watcher calls a “dragnet” for massive amounts of information on private citizens; the government portrays its data-collection efforts much differently.
Change we can believe in!
Much of the blame for the 2008 market collapse belongs to banks that earned billions of dollars in profits creating and selling financial products that imploded along with the housing market, according to the report. The Levin-Coburn panel levied its harshest criticism at investment banks, in particular accusing Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank AG (DB) of peddling collateralized debt obligations backed by risky loans that the banks’ own traders believed were likely to lose value.
1. The sarcophagus roof has been leaking for some time and it is estimated that 3000 m³ of water has mixed with the fuel. There was therefore a concern about possible recriticality. […]2. After two weeks of heavy rainfall in 1990, the neutron detector rate increased by a factor of about 60 and stayed there for several days causing great concern to the scientific oversight team.
OMFG! The science team at Chernobyl believes that the criticality problem would disappear if the water could be removed. Their intention therefore is to pump it out as soon as a place can be found to store it.
*grusel* (Danke, Horst)
That's the attitude: "We're going to change mosques into cathedrals."That's an attitude that pervades, I'm here to say, a large percentage of the Special Operations Command, the Joint Special Operations Command and Stanley McChrystal, the one who got in trouble because of the article in Rolling Stone, and his follow-on, a Navy admiral named McRaven, Bill McRaven — all are members or at least supporters of Knights of Malta. McRaven attended, so I understand, the recent annual convention of the Knights of Malta they had in Cyprus a few months back in November. They're all believers — many of them are members of Opus Dei.
They do see what they are doing — and this is not an atypical attitude among some military — it's a crusade, literally. They see themselves as the protectors of the Christians. They're protecting them from the Muslims in the 13th century. And this is their function. They have little insignias, they have coins they pass among each other, which are crusader coins, and they have insignia that reflect that, the whole notion that this is a war, it's culture war.
Was tut man da? Und was passiert dann?
So what happens of course, is after three or four days, "bang, bang" — I'm just telling you — they turn them over to the Afghans and by the time they take three steps away the shots are fired.
On Thursday, President Barack Obama telephoned Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, to urge him to block a UN Security Council resolution condemning settlements. Obama pressed very hard during the 50 minute call, so hard that Abbas felt constrained to agree to take Obama’s request to the PLO executive committee (which, not surprisingly, agreed that Abbas should not accede to Obama’s request).
Army investigators now believe Pfc. Manning decided to steal the documents and give them to WikiLeaks on his own, out of his own malice toward the military or the government, according to a senior U.S. official.
"At the time, our intelligence reports told of Chinese agents crisscrossing the region where the F-117 disintegrated, buying up parts of the plane from local farmers," said Admiral Davor Domazet-Loso, Croatia's military chief of staff during the Kosovo war. "We believe the Chinese used those materials to gain an insight into secret stealth technologies … and to reverse-engineer them."
Change we can believe in!
Obama is hiring military contractors at a rate that would make Bush blush.
Change we can believe in!
"Visa Europe has begun suspending payments to whistle-blowing website Wikileaks ahead of carrying out an investigation into the organisation". Und deshalb will man keine Visa-Kreditkarte haben.
Wie man sieht, will man gar keine Kreditkarte haben. Was für eine Frechheit. Wi-der-lich.
Charles Arthur, the Guardian's technology editor, points out that while MasterCard and Visa have cut WikiLeaks off you can still use those cards to donate to overtly racist organisations such as the Knights Party, which is supported by the Ku Klux Klan. The Ku Klux Klan website directs users to a site called Christian Concepts. It takes Visa and MasterCard donations for users willing to state that they are "white and not of racially mixed descent. I am not married to a non-white. I do not date non-whites nor do I have non-white dependents. I believe in the ideals of western Christian civilisation and profess my belief in Jesus Christ as the son of God."
Republican leaders have already vowed to reverse Mr Obama's healthcare reforms and to cut spending.
Haha, cut spending, hahahahaha.
Earlier the Republicans' John Boehner, set to become the next speaker of the House of Representatives, pledged to repeal Mr Obama's healthcare reform "monstrosity"."I believe the healthcare bill will kill jobs, ruin the best healthcare system in the world and bankrupt our country," Mr Boehner said.
Da sieht man mal, was für Verstrahlte da gewählt wurde. Weia.
It's a membership organization of state legislators and powerful corporations and associations, such as the tobacco company Reynolds American Inc., ExxonMobil and the National Rifle Association.
Another member is the billion-dollar Corrections Corporation of America — the largest private prison company in the country.
ACH NEE. According to Corrections Corporation of America reports reviewed by NPR, executives believe immigrant detention is their next big market. Last year, they wrote that they expect to bring in "a significant portion of our revenues" from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency that detains illegal immigrants.
Bing-Bing-Bing-Bing-Bingo!
"I believed that by firing the number of rounds that I did, I was sending a message," Pantano told the New York magazine.
Wegen unzureichender Beweislage. Das war ja schließlich im Irak, und es gab nur zwei überlebende Zeugen, von denen einer sagte:Sergeant Daniel Coburn, who was 27 at the time and one of the three soldiers at the incident, recalled wondering "when the lieutenant was going to stop, because it was obvious that they were dead."
Völlig klar, also, die Ermittlungen muss man einstellen.
The Army awarded the "sole source" contract in February to the University of Pennsylvania for resilience training, or teaching soldiers to better cope with the psychological strain of multiple combat tours.
The university's Positive Psychology Center, directed by famed psychologist Martin Seligman, is conducting the resilience training.
So: "Merkel says German multicultural society has failed".
A recent survey showed that more than 30% of Germans believed Germany was "overrun by foreigners".
in other words, not only does the President have the right to sentence Americans to death with no due process or charges of any kind, but his decisions as to who will be killed and why he wants them dead are "state secrets," and thus no court may adjudicate their legality.
"My reaction was one of stun, amazement that they want to kill people with my software that doesn't work," he said
und weiter"Jon [Shepherd's] statement, apparently endorsed by Jim [Baum] that the customer can 'just work with whatever we give them' is not consistent with how IISi works. And we don't really believe that is how our national security agencies work. Frankly, that response suggests a cavalier sales approach to a profound issue. Lives are at stake."
Despite the government's best intentions, some locals think a prolonged federal presence will scare away businesses by sending a message that the Silver Valley is a dangerous place to live. Residents and politicians in this conservative region also believe it's a waste of taxpayer dollars and that the real intention of the government is to shut down the remaining mines.
President Barack Obama signed a bill Friday that provides $600 million in emergency funding to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
WTF? Was soll das denn? Among other things, the bill provides for roughly 1,500 new law enforcement agents, new unmanned aerial vehicles, new forwarding operating bases and $14 million in new communications equipment.
"I hear these people saying he's like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested," Gibbs said. "I mean, it's crazy."The press secretary dismissed the "professional left" in terms very similar to those used by their opponents on the ideological right, saying, "They will be satisfied when we have Canadian healthcare and we've eliminated the Pentagon. That's not reality."
Change we can believe in!
Money Quote:
Officials from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Army then told him he was not under arrest but was being detained, the sources said.
Riiiight. Ausländer wären vermutlich direkt in Richtung Guantanamo verschwunden worden. Change we can believe in!Auf Wikileaks ist übrigens zeitlich passend eine Datei namens "insurance.aes256" aufgetaucht.
Na?
Kommt ihr nie drauf!
But about three miles off the coast of Alaska, BP is moving ahead with a controversial and potentially record-setting project to drill two miles under the sea and then six to eight miles horizontally to reach what is believed to be a 100-million-barrel reservoir of oil under federal waters.
BP… BP… BP… das waren doch die hier!
The bio-tech company Monsanto can sell genetically modified seeds before safety tests on them are completed, the US Supreme Court has ruled.
Change you can believe in!
Adobe’s Flash products are 100% proprietary. They are only available from Adobe, and Adobe has sole authority as to their future enhancement, pricing, etc. While Adobe’s Flash products are widely available, this does not mean they are open, since they are controlled entirely by Adobe and available only from Adobe. By almost any definition, Flash is a closed system.
Komisch, passt immer noch 100%!Though the operating system for the iPhone, iPod and iPad is proprietary, we strongly believe that all standards pertaining to the web should be open.
Und deshalb setzen sie auf … *Trommelwirbel*What they don’t say is that almost all this video is also available in a more modern format, H.264, and viewable on iPhones, iPods and iPads.
All das Offenheitsgefasel und dann nehmen sie… H.264!
Was muss passieren?
How Hood was to have raised the conflict of interest when the existence of the affair was not conclusively established until 2008, when the judge and prosecutor were forced to admit it under oath, is not explained.
Großartig. In Texas gilt ja angeblich auch "he had it coming" als erfolgreiche Verteidigung :-)In his compelling new book, The Autobiography of an Execution, Texas death-penalty lawyer David Dow condemns a system of capital punishment built on evading responsibility at every stage of litigation: Jurors duck behind other jurors. Judges take refuge behind jury verdicts. The appeals courts wordlessly affirm the trial judge. Then the Supreme Court hangs out a sign that says GONE FISHIN'. Since everyone is fairly certain the accused probably killed someone, the fact that along the line an injustice may have occurred just doesn't matter. But if you believe that a one-sentence disposition of his case is more justice than a Charles Hood deserves, you're still asking the wrong question. Hood may be sentenced to die in a justice system where outrageous judicial bias merits only a sentence. The rest of us have to go on living in it.
Weia.
Kamm maintained that she did not believe her actions would endanger state security because she was certain the army censor would block any articles written on the basis of her information which did so. That was one of the reasons she gave the documents to an Israeli reporter, since she knew his reports would come before the censor, she added.
HAHAHAHAHA, super!
Among the most frequently cited reasons for keeping records secret: one that Obama specifically told agencies to stop using so frequently. The Freedom of Information Act exception, known as the "deliberative process" exemption, lets the government withhold records that describe its decision-making behind the scenes.
Völlig klar, da kann man unmöglich Einblick gewähren. Schon gar nicht den Wählern.
In an oped in USA Today, John Brennan — Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism — responds to critics of the Obama administration's counterterrorism policies by saying "Politically motivated criticism and unfounded fear-mongering only serve the goals of al-Qaeda."
An sich ist sein Punkt ja ein anderer, nämlichBrennan writes that, "Terrorists are not 100-feet tall. Nor do they deserve the abject fear they seek to instill."
Change wie can believe in!
In the Lieberman press release, Sen. Ensign explained that he believes informing Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab of his Miranda rights before condemning him to possible life in prison is "as perplexing as it is dangerous.""This more clearly illustrates that this Administration is more concerned with gently prosecuting terrorists than it is with extracting important intelligence from them that would help prevent future attacks and protect the citizens of this country," he claimed.
(Danke, Klaus)
According to the NCIS, each prisoner had fashioned a noose from torn sheets and T-shirts and tied it to the top of his cell’s eight-foot-high steel-mesh wall. Each prisoner was able somehow to bind his own hands, and, in at least one case, his own feet, then stuff more rags deep down into his own throat. We are then asked to believe that each prisoner, even as he was choking on those rags, climbed up on his washbasin, slipped his head through the noose, tightened it, and leapt from the washbasin to hang until he asphyxiated. The NCIS report also proposes that the three prisoners, who were held in non-adjoining cells, carried out each of these actions almost simultaneously.
The fact that at least two of the prisoners also had cloth masks affixed to their faces, presumably to prevent the expulsion of the rags from their mouths, went unremarked by the NCIS, as did the fact that standard operating procedure at Camp Delta required the Navy guards on duty after midnight to “conduct a visual search” of each cell and detainee every ten minutes.
All four soldiers say they were ordered by their commanding officer not to speak out, and all four soldiers provide evidence that authorities initiated a cover-up within hours of the prisoners’ deaths.
Cass Sunstein, a Harvard law professor, co-wrote an academic article entitled "Conspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures," in which he argued that the government should stealthily infiltrate groups that pose alternative theories on historical events via "chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine" those groups.
By "crippled epistemology" Sunstein means that people who believe in conspiracy theories have a limited number of sources of information that they trust. Therefore, Sunstein argued in the article, it would not work to simply refute the conspiracy theories in public — the very sources that conspiracy theorists believe would have to be infiltrated.
Change we can believe in! (Danke, Andy)
In a reversal, President Barack Obama said on Wednesday he would fight the release of dozens of photographs showing the abuse of terrorism suspects, over concern the images could ignite a backlash against U.S. troops.
Ach nee.
Even though health officials are calling this new virus H1N1, that's also the type of virus that's in wide circulation today. And it has an interesting history. It was the dominant flu virus through the 1920s, '30s and '40s. Oxford says it disappeared in 1957, when it was displaced by another flu virus. But then a strain of H1N1 suddenly reappeared in 1977."Now where could it have come from?" he asks. "We reckon now, in retrospect, it was probably released accidentally from a laboratory, probably in northern China or just across the border in Russia, because everyone was experimenting with those viruses at the time in the lab."
It was nothing malicious, Oxford believes, just some flu vaccine research that broke out of containment. The descendents of this virus are still circulating.
The music industry fears new technologies according to Norway’s Minister of Education. He believes that if radio had been invented today the record labels would have tried to shut that down too. “But just as the radio and cassettes haven’t killed music, it is a preposterous claim to say that file-sharing does,” Solhjell told VG nett.
Amen.
Daniel James, who had access to the highest echelons of the Nato mission in Kabul, was caught red-handed betraying his country in a series of coded emails. The Iranian-born soldier, a flamboyant fantasist who styled himself "General James", believed he had been denied promotion because of racism and jealousy.
He told one colleague: "They will have their comeuppance."
James also needed money. He was £25,000 in debt and had four mortgages on flats in Brighton – although he later claimed he would not give away secrets for a million pounds.
Friends and enemies agree that the key to Emanuel's success is his legendary intensity. There's the story about the time he sent a rotting fish to a pollster who had angered him. There's the story about how his right middle finger was blown off by a Syrian tank when he was in the Israeli army. And there's the story of how, the night after Clinton was elected, Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting "Dead! . . . Dead! . . . Dead!" and plunging the knife into the table after every name. "When he was done, the table looked like a lunar landscape," one campaign veteran recalls. "It was like something out of The Godfather. But that's Rahm for you."Of the three stories, only the second is a myth — Emanuel lost the finger to a meat slicer as a teenager and never served in the Israeli army. But it's a measure of his considerable reputation as the enforcer in Clinton's White House that so many people believe it to be true. You don't earn the nickname "Rahmbo" being timid.
Rahmbo, ja? Weia.
Moreover, among the major religious groups, evangelical virgins are the least likely to anticipate that sex will be pleasurable, and the most likely to believe that having sex will cause their partners to lose respect for them. (Jews most often cite pleasure as a reason to have sex, and say that an unplanned pregnancy would be an embarrassment.) But, according to Add Health data, evangelical teen-agers are more sexually active than Mormons, mainline Protestants, and Jews. On average, white evangelical Protestants make their “sexual début”—to use the festive term of social-science researchers—shortly after turning sixteen. Among major religious groups, only black Protestants begin having sex earlier.
in some schools, if too many teens pledge, the effort basically collapses. Pledgers apparently gather strength from the sense that they are an embattled minority; once their numbers exceed thirty per cent, and proclaimed chastity becomes the norm, that special identity is lost
Growing up, McCain attended Episcopal High School, an all-white, all-boys boarding school across the Potomac in Virginia, where tuition today tops $40,000 a year. There, McCain behaved with all the petulance his privilege allowed, earning the nicknames "Punk" and "McNasty." Even his friends seemed to dislike him, with one recalling him as "a mean little fucker." […]Midway though his final year, McCain faced expulsion, about to "bilge out" because of excessive demerits. After his mother intervened, however, the academy's commandant stepped in. Calling McCain "spoiled" to his face, he nonetheless issued a reprieve, scaling back the demerits. McCain dodged expulsion a second time by convincing another midshipman to take the fall after McCain was caught with contraband.
He was still in training, in Texas, when he crashed his first plane into Corpus Christi Bay during a routine practice landing. […]McCain's thrill-seeking carried over into his day job. Flying over the south of Spain one day, he decided to deviate from his flight plan. Rocketing along mere feet above the ground, his plane sliced through a power line. His self-described "daredevil clowning" plunged much of the area into a blackout.
On October 25th, 1967, he bombed a pair of Soviet MiGs parked on an airfield outside Hanoi. His record was now even. Enemy planes destroyed by McCain: two. American planes destroyed by McCain: two.
Bwahahahaha, sehr schön :-)Soon after McCain hit the ground in Hanoi, the code went out the window. "I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital," he later admitted pleading with his captors. McCain now insists the offer was a bluff, designed to fool the enemy into giving him medical treatment. In fact, his wounds were attended to only after the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a Navy admiral. What has never been disclosed is the manner in which they found out: McCain told them. According to Dramesi, one of the few POWs who remained silent under years of torture, McCain tried to justify his behavior while they were still prisoners. "I had to tell them," he insisted to Dramesi, "or I would have died in bed."
Nachvollziehbar? Keine Frage. What McCain glosses over is that accepting early release would have required him to make disloyal statements that would have violated the military's Code of Conduct. If he had done so, he could have risked court-martial and an ignominious end to his military career. "Many of us were given this offer," according to Butler, McCain's classmate who was also taken prisoner. "It meant speaking out against your country and lying about your treatment to the press. You had to 'admit' that the U.S. was criminal and that our treatment was 'lenient and humane.' So I, like numerous others, refused the offer."
By 1999, McCain was championing what he called "rogue state rollback." First on the hit list: Iraq.Privately, McCain brags that he was the "original neocon." And after 9/11, he took the lead in agitating for war with Iraq, outpacing even Dick Cheney in the dissemination of bogus intelligence about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein.
(Danke, Ralf)
The auctions settled at 8.625 cents in the dollar, meaning banks and other investors who had agreed to make these payments in the event of Lehman’s default will have to pay out 91.375 cents on the dollar.
Nevertheless, the settlement of the Lehman CDS highlights the plunge in value of the debt of the investment bank, which filed for bankruptcy nearly four weeks ago. With about $130bn of outstanding bonds, holders of this debt have made severe losses. The bonds were trading at about 80 cents on the dollar just days before Lehman collapsed. The value of Lehman Brothers’ senior bonds hit a new low of 9 cents on the dollar after the CDS results, before rising to 12 cents.
Sandy Chen, a banking analyst at Panmure Gordon, this morning described the prospect of mass payment failures as "key drivers of the current apocalypse". He pointed to Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland as being most exposed among the UK banks to the credit derivative market. Both have bought and sold, in roughly equal measure, £2.4tn of such contracts. […]Chen believes Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland are likely to be prominent among those required to pay out on Lehman CDSs. Meanwhile, counterparties failing to meet their CDS obligations to the two banks could lead to significant writedowns. "Against this, tangible shareholders' equity bases of £20bn to £30bn seem like cloth tents in a hurricane," said Chen.
The arrests of the 18 group members, known as the "Toronto 18," made headlines around the world and heightened fears in Canada, where people believe they are relatively immune from terrorist strikes.
A Canadian man accused of participating in military exercises and firearms training as part of a group authorities say plotted to storm Parliament and behead the prime minister was found guilty Thursday. The man's attorney says the plot was a "jihadi fantasy" and that his client knew nothing about it.
Whoa. Terrorcamp? The man has not been identified because he was 17, a legal minor, when he was arrested in 2006. He is now 20.
Siebzehn!
Sproat however said few would have believed the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S. were a possibility before they happened.
Sproat noted that participants marched, played paintball games, shot a handgun and heard lectures on waging war against the West. He also called the young man an "acolyte" of the "charismatic" ringleader.
Wandern! Paintball!
"I don't believe he's a terrorist. I don't believe he should have been put through what he was put through, but that's our system," Shaikh said.
Unglaublich. (Danke, Tohei)
In the early days of the Korean War, other American officers observed, photographed and confidentially reported on such wholesale executions by their South Korean ally, a secretive slaughter believed to have killed 100,000 or more leftists and supposed sympathizers, usually without charge or trial, in a few weeks in mid-1950.
Let Freedom Ring!
These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.
It could not be learned whether there has been American involvement in any specific incident in Iran, but, according to Gardiner, the Iranians have begun publicly blaming the U.S., Great Britain, and, more recently, the C.I.A. for some incidents. The agency was involved in a coup in Iran in 1953, and its support for the unpopular regime of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi—who was overthrown in 1979—was condemned for years by the ruling mullahs in Tehran, to great effect. “This is the ultimate for the Iranians—to blame the C.I.A.,” Gardiner said. “This is new, and it’s an escalation—a ratcheting up of tensions. It rallies support for the regime and shows the people that there is a continuing threat from the ‘Great Satan.’ ” In Gardiner’s view, the violence, rather than weakening Iran’s religious government, may generate support for it.
Also mal wieder Totalschaden bei der CIA, business as usual. Und wen finanzieren sie da?“The Baluchis are Sunni fundamentalists who hate the regime in Tehran, but you can also describe them as Al Qaeda,” Baer told me. “These are guys who cut off the heads of nonbelievers—in this case, it’s Shiite Iranians. The irony is that we’re once again working with Sunni fundamentalists, just as we did in Afghanistan in the nineteen-eighties.”
Sunniten, mhh, wie die 9/11 Hijacker? Erstaunliche Koinzidenz. Und das Ziel der ganzen Chose?“The subject was how to create a casus belli between Tehran and Washington,” he said.

The apparent purpose of this tool is to create trojanized PDF files. You select which EXE you want to embed, which PDF file you want to trojanize, and which platform you expect the victim to be using.Cool. Now, the real question is this: How on earth did we get our hands on such a tool?
You'd never guess it.
We received it inside a trojanized PDF file.
Here's what we believe happened:
Someone, somewhere was using this tool for the first time.
They did a test run, selecting a random PDF file and a random EXE to create a trojanized PDF, just as a test.
As a random EXE, they selected — wait for it — GenMDB.EXE itself!
Then the perpetrator was probably curious to find out if the trojan PDF would be detected by virus scanners or not.
So he uploaded the trojanized PDF to an online scanner.
HAHAHAHAHAHA, die Welt ist voller Idioten. Grandios!
Chertoff also said he believed Europe was still a target for terrorist attacks and people should be vigilant during the summer months. […]
He stressed, however, that he was not aware of any specific plot.

ME: After WWII, the Tokyo Tribunal was basically the Nuremberg Trials for Japan. Many Japanese leaders were put on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including torture. And among the tortures listed was the "water treatment," which we nowadays call waterboarding…ASHCROFT: (interrupting) This is a speech, not a question. I don't mind, but it's not a question.
ME: It will be, sir, just give me a moment. The judgment describes this water treatment, and I quote, "the victim was bound or otherwise secured in a prone position; and water was forced through his mouth and nostrils into his lungs and stomach." One man, Yukio Asano, was sentenced to fifteen years hard labor by the allies for waterboarding American troops to obtain information. Since Yukio Asano was trying to get information to help defend his country — exactly what you, Mr. Ashcroft, say is acceptible for Americans to do — do you believe that his sentence was unjust? (boisterous applause and shouts of "Good question!")
YEAH! Pwned! (Danke, Klaus)

Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena. The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.
Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence, head of the Police Department's homeland security and special operations divisions, said the order — apparently made by the U.S. Secret Service — was meant to speed up the long lines outside and fill the arena's vacant seats before Obama came on.
A main concern of SB260 supporters is with the business "rate-my-cop," which is a national company that has made requests for misconduct reports on every officer in every agency in the area. Buttars believes that "rate-my-cop" will put the information into a data base and sell it to defense attorneys.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Oh Mann. (Danke, Klaus)
Prima Theorie.

Lauter tolle Dinge über Schwule, Atheisten und anderes Gesochs. Mein persönliches Highlight:I am a bit troubled. I believe my son has a girlfriend, because she left a dirty magazine with men in it under his bed. My son is only 16 and I really don't think he's ready to date yet. What's worse is that he's sneaking some girl to his room behind my back. I need help, God! I want my son to stop being so secretive!Un-glaub-lich.

Keine weiteren Fragen. Einer noch:Everyone knows scientists insist on using complex terminology to make it harder for True Christians to refute their claims.Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example… sounds impressive, right? Locals blamed the U.S. military for the shark's presence.Tahseen Ali, a teacher, said there was a "75 percent chance" Americans had put the shark in the water.
"This is very frightening for us. Our children always swim in the river and I believe that there are more sharks. I believe that America is behind this matter," said fisherman Hatim Karim.
Patients at Liverpool hospitals are to be given doses of birdsong to aid their recovery. Though doctors are uncertain of the effect, they believe that a blast of the dawn chorus is a good medicine. Clearly NHS cuts are biting deep. I assume Liverpool's medical staff have already combed the Merseyside woods for hemlock, cowbane, henbane, belladonna, yarrow and mandrake. Bismuth and bromide must be near exhaustion. Now the birds of the air are being conscripted. This government stops at nothing. For J Collis Brown read chaffinch-juice.
NHS == National Health Service.
Remarkably, a full 21 percent of the country's 16.7 million easterners felt nostalgic about the concrete, barbed wire and armed guards that separated them from the west. The poll conducted by independent opinion research firm Emnid found 74 percent of easterners had felt like second-class citizens since Germany reunited on October 3, 1990.
About the same share of westerners - 73 percent - said they did not believe easterners were at a disadvantage.
The discovery, reported in the journal Nature, is a key step in the creation of ultra-powerful lasers known as gamma-ray annihilation lasers."The difference in the power available from a gamma-ray laser compared to a normal laser is the same as the difference between a nuclear explosion and a chemical explosion," said Dr David Cassidy of the University of California, Riverside, and one of the authors of the paper.
Das sagt ja schon der Name, "gamma-ray annihilation laser".As a result, there is a huge interest in the technology from the military as well as energy researchers who believe the lasers could be used to kick-start nuclear fusion in a reactor.

Study author Dr. Tom Robinson said the kids' perception of taste was "physically altered by the branding." The Stanford University researcher said it was remarkable how children so young were already so influenced by advertising. The study involved 63 low-income children ages 3 to 5 from Head Start centers in San Mateo County, Calif. Robinson believes the results would be similar for children from wealthier families.
The judges also said the media could not publish a particular phrase uttered in open court by Keogh when he was asked about the document. The media can, however, say Keogh was said to have described the contents as "abhorrent" and "illegal", and that he believed the memo exposed Mr Bush as a "madman".
as police attempted to extricate him from his motor, he "clutched his laptop computer and screamed the name of Apple's CEO Steve Jobs". A fireman later told 3 News "he believed the man had a mental illness".
(Danke, Benjamin)
Was passiert hier wirklich?
A push from Congress and the White House for huge increases in biofuels, such as ethanol, is prompting the oil industry to scale back its plans for refinery expansions. That could keep gasoline prices high, possibly for years to come. With President Bush calling for a 20 percent drop in gasoline use and the Senate now debating legislation for huge increases in ethanol production, oil companies see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones.
Oil industry executives no longer believe there will be the demand for gasoline over the next decade to warrant the billions of dollars in refinery expansions — as much as 10 percent increase in new refining capacity — they anticipated as recently as a year ago.
By creating a situation of extremely tight supply, the oil companies gain control over price at the wholesale level," said Mark Cooper of the Consumer Federation of America. He argued that a wave of mergers in recent years created a refining industry that "has no interest in creating spare (refining) capacity."
The fact is that Americans are paying more at the pump because we do not have the domestic capacity to refine the fuels consumers demand," Inhofe complained as he tried unsuccessfully to get into the bill a proposal to ease permitting and environmental rules for refineries.
Win-Win-Win! :-)
Iran's financial system suffered a fresh jolt yesterday with panic selling on the stock market after the president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, abruptly ordered banks to cut interest rates sharply, despite surging inflation. The order, which Mr Ahmadinejad issued by telephone during a visit to Belarus and which flew in the face of expert advice - has triggered warnings of a financial crisis and spiralling corruption amid fears of a capital flight from the country's lending institutions.
Mr Ahmadinejad's decree forced all state-owned and private banks to slash borrowing rates to 12%. Inflation is officially 15% but is generally believed to be much higher. State banks had been offering rates of 14%, while those in the private sector ranged from 17% to 28%.
Boah was geht denn da gerade ab!?
A new Microsoft-funded study has found that open-source developers do not believe that licenses such as the upcoming GNU General Public License 3.0 should enforce software patents or prevent deals like the Microsoft-Novell patent agreement.
MacCormack describes the study as a survey of "key contributors" from major open-source projects. Although 332 emails were sent to various developers, only 34 agreed to participate in the survey.an 11 percent response rate. Of the 34 developers who responded, many of them are associated with projects like Apache and PostgreSQL that don't even use the GPL.
After he protested his innocence, Webb says that the principal said: 'Well, why should we believe you? You're a criminal. Criminals lie all the time.'
The review is intended to chart a course for the next 10 years by focusing more "on the offender, not the offence".Most crime is committed by a small number of offenders who could be identified almost from birth, ministers believe.
After 10 years focusing on tougher sentences, the review paper said it wanted to tackle the "underlying causes — through better targeting".
Vulnerable children and those at risk will be identified by "trigger" factors such as parents in jail or on drugs.
They will be subject to measures including home visits from specialists.
But the Government says the net should be cast as widely as possible "to prevent criminality developing".
Ballmer admitted to financial analysts that the predictions for Vista had proved 'overly optimistic' and he blamed the pirates in China, India, Brazil, Russia and other emerging markets. He said his final solution would be to increase the intensity Windows Genuine Advantage as part of an effort to squeeze more revenue from developing nations.
Ballmer believes that one way Microsoft can bump up Windows sales is to tighten the screws on pirates. "Piracy reduction can be a source of Windows revenue growth, and I think we'll make some piracy improvements this year."
Ich finde ja den letzten Satz großartig. Microsoft wird Fortschritte bei der Softwarepiraterie machen. (Danke, Kris)
Nee, klar. Oh, und wer hat diese Leute geschickt? Ihr werdet es kaum glauben:
A senior Iraqi military official said the sophistication of the attack led him to believe it was the work of Iranian intelligence agents in conjunction with Iraq's Shiite Mahdi Army militia, which Iran funds, arms and trains.
*dingel* *ding* *ding* *ding* BINGO!
An automated voice at the other end of the telephone line asks whether you believe that judges who "push homosexual marriage and create new rights like abortion and sodomy" should be controlled. If your reply is "yes," the voice lets you know that the Democratic candidate in the Senate race in Montana, Jon Tester, is not your man.
The Ohio-based conservatives behind the new campaign, who include current and former Procter & Gamble managers, say the automated system can reach vast numbers of people at a fraction of the cost of traditional volunteer phone banks and is the most ambitious political use of the telemarketing technology ever undertaken.
Mr. Swift acknowledged in an interview that if some critics thought the group's polling approach seemed deceptive, "I grant that they can reach that conclusion."
Now don't get me wrong — there's a 100% chance that the voting machines will get hacked and all future elections will be rigged. But that doesn't mean we'l get a worse government. It probably means that the choice of the next American president will be taken out of the hands of deep-pocket, autofellating, corporate shitbags and put into the hands of some teenager in Finland. How is that not an improvement?Statistically speaking, any hacker who is skilled enough to rig the elections will also be smart enough to select politicians that believe in… oh, let's say for example, science. Compare that to the current method where big money interests buy political ads that confuse snake-dancing simpletons until they vote for the guy who scares them the least. Then during the period between the election and the impending Rapture, that traditionally elected President will get busy protecting the lives of stem cells while finding creative ways to blow the living crap out of anything that has the audacity to grow up and turn brownish.
Bush: "Well, one thing is that you can rest assured we are not going to talk about the techniques we use in a public forum, no matter how hard you try, because I don't want the enemy to be able to adjust their tactics if we capture them on the battlefield. But what the American people need to know is we have a program in place that is able to get intelligence from these people and we have used it to stop attacks. The intelligence community believes strongly that the information we got from the detainee questioning program yielded information that made America safer, that we stopped attacks.
Secondly, the courts. Yeah, I believe it is necessary to have military tribunals because I ultimately want these people to be tried. And it took a while to get these tribunals in place. The Supreme Court ruled that the president didn't have the authority to set up these courts on his own, that he needed to work with Congress to do so, and we did.
What's interesting about these votes that took place in the Congress is the number of Democrats that opposed questioning people we picked up on the battlefield. And I think that's an issue that they will have to explain to the American people.
As the famed National Museum of Kenya (NMK) prepares to re-open next year after massive EU-funded renovations, evangelicals are demanding the display be removed or at least shunted to a less prominent location. The Origins Of Man exhibit, comprised of pre-historic finds from around Africa's Great Rift Valley considered by many to be the cradle of humanity, is offensive as it promotes Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, they say.
"When museums put it out there that man evolved from apes, theologically they are affecting many people who are Christians, who believe God created us," says Bishop Boniface Adoyo, who is leading a campaign against the exhibit.
"It's creating a big weapon against Christians that's killing our faith," he told AFP, calling evolution theory an "insult" and dangerous to youths. "When children go to museums they'll start believing we evolved from these apes.
Na hoffentlich!
"What do we mean by political opposition in our country?" Sergei Mironov, head of the Party of Life and speaker of the upper house of parliament, asked Tuesday at a news conference in Moscow. "First of all, I would like to declare we back the course laid down [by] the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. . . . But we do not believe that one political party, one political force should have the monopoly of implementing the presidential" program.
Can't make this shit up…
In contrast to previous reports, one senior British official suggested an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports. The sources did say, however, that police believe one U.K.-based suspect was ready to conduct a "dry run." British authorities had wanted to let him go forward with part of the plan, but the Americans balked.
John Bolton, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said that "in light of the fluid events on the ground," the United States believed the Qatar-sponsored resolution was untimely and out of date, and would have helped inflame passions in the Middle East.
… at least five sets of trials "may not have met the ethical standards required". They include one trial in which drops of a poison were placed on the skin of volunteers at a dosage level believed at the time to be fatal.Another test saw six men severely injured after their genitals were exposed to mustard gas to test prototype protective underwear.
The trial, in which an RAF serviceman, Ronald Maddison, died in agony after being given sarin, is also condemned in a list of cases in which scientists were acting "at the edge of their knowledge".
No, really?
Rear Adm Harris said he did not believe the men had killed themselves out of despair."They are smart. They are creative, they are committed," he said, quoted by Reuters.
"They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us."
Nee, klar.
A top US official has described the suicides of three detainees at the US base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a "good PR move to draw attention"
Diplomatic sources also believe that the US may be offering the estimated $400 million (£215 million) deal, including transport costs, to the Russians as an inducement to embargo its arms and nuclear technology exports to Iran.Defence specialists said Russian arms chiefs at first "fell about laughing" because they thought the order was a joke when it arrived this month.
Trying to communicate across 500 generations posed an unprecedented challenge of linguistics, semiotics and materials science, so the government first asked scientists, futurists and historians to envision what the far-distant future might be like.Their report combines dry analysis and projections worthy of sci-fi disaster films, including massive climate change and feminist corporations that disbelieve WIPP warnings because they were written by men. Civilization is so interdependent and fragile, one panelist grimly noted, "that any massive global catastrophe might lead to reversion to at least a preindustrial era." Greed or desperation could give rise to legends that WIPP holds buried treasure ? apparently confirmed by surface warnings to keep out.
Here are Bush's words, spoken before hundreds of lawmakers and politicians:"Chang is a mystical warrior. Chang is somebody who believes in conservative principles, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism, believes in moral values that underpin a free society.
I rely on Chang with great regularity in my public life. He has been by my side and sometimes I let him down. But Chang, this mystical warrior, has never let me down."
Bush then unsheathed a golden sword and gave it to Rubio as a gift.
"I'm going to bestow to you the sword of a great conservative warrior," he said, as the crowd roared.
