well, we all know that Uber takes the market and market incentives to extremes. My hypothesis (without any information to back it up) is that Uber pays more when there are less drivers around (i.e. at night, and in the more dangerous parts of town), and if you are a woman you'd rather not drive in the shady parts at night. Consequently you miss out on the bonus. If that's true the lesson is that the market does not know about gender and that consequently market-based methods won't help on that front.
