Für die Anwendung des fertig trainierten LLMs gibt es ja auch noch Rechenzentren voll mit Nvidia-Hardware, die kosten auch nochmal unfassbar viel Strom. Dazu gibt es glaube ich keine Zahlen, aber ich würde vermuten, dass "KI"-Scammer in Sachen Stromverschwendung jetzt schon an den Bitcoin-Scammern vorbeigezogen sind.

Ich finde das eine krasse Vorstellung, dass gefühlte (manipulierte?) Wahrnehmung und Realität so krass voneinander abweichen können.
Wobei das natürlich hüben wie drüben einfach daran liegen kann, dass sie die Erfolgsmetriken so definieren, dass sie gleichzeitig Riesenverluste ausweisen und Riesengewinne mitnehmen können.
Das lief von den frühen 1970er Jahren bis Anfang der 1990er Jahre, spannte also mehrere Regierungen, und alle haben es geschehen lassen.
Als die merkten, was sie getan hatten, haben sie es zu vertuschen versucht und weitergemacht.

Allerdings hat daran wohl die Friedensbewegung in den USA eine große Rolle gespielt, denn die Sowjets konnten sehen, dass die Bevölkerung der USA nicht hinter militärischer Eskalation steht, weder nuklear noch konventionell.
Das wäre dann auch die offensichtliche Lektion an dieser Stelle. Diese Zeiten verlangen nach mehr Friedensbewegung und weniger Eskalation.

Ich gehe in Vorleistung, indem ich ein Video produziere und hochlade und denen die Erlaubnis gebe, das über Werbung zu monetarisieren. Die revanchieren sich, indem sie mein Video für mich kostenfrei hosten und streamen und wenn genug Kohle reinkommt, dann teilen sie das mit mir.
Ich nahm an, Youtube hätte in ihrer AGB dann einfach eine Klausel drin: Wenn wir keinen Bock mehr haben, dann löschen wir deine Videos und du kannst nichts dagegen tun. Tatsächlich steht da aber:

I don’t believe most Americans have thought through what a successful campaign to oust Donald Trump would look like. Most casual news consumers can only think of it in terms of Mike Pence becoming president. Meine Erfahrung mit solchen Portalen ist, dass es da durchaus gelegentlich "competitive analysis" über Konkurrenten gibt, aber das ist häufig nur so PR-Blablah. Dieser Artikel hat zwar auch PR, z.B. das Kapitel "Intel´s secret sauce":

Besser hätten die das gar nicht jemandem gegen Geld in den Mund legen können.Intel ist so in der Defensive in dem Artikel, dass sie ernsthaft als Argument anführen, manche Software (*hust* ORACLE!! *hust*) wolle ja pro Core Lizenzgebühren haben, und da könne es ja günstiger sein, wenn man weniger Cores hat. Wait, what!?
Nicht nur das: In dem Thread unter dem Leak haben sie dann auch noch aus der Kommentarspalte zitiert, die Intels Portal offenbar hat, und der Kommentator da nahm auch kein Blatt vor den Mund.
Ich befürchte, bei Intel gibt es jetzt eine Nacht der langen Messer. Das ist für keinen Manager schön, wenn ihre Dreckwäsche öffentlich gewaschen wird.

Oh und John Wayne ist ja tot, der kann sich nicht mehr wehren. Der hat sich 1971 in einem Interview für Playboy (!) wie folgt geäußert:

Man kann das - offensichtlich - nur ausnutzen, wenn man das auszulesende "Geheimnis" im Speicher bereits im L1 Cache der gleichen CPU hat, was kein triviales Problem ist, wenn man es selbst nicht lesen darf und auch (von mir getestet) Befehle wie prefetch oder simpler Zugriff über MOVen vom unberechtigten Prozess kein L1 Caching bewirken.
Schön kann man diese Anhängigkeit an allen so funktionierenden und verfügbaren Meltdown-Code sehen, die im Kernel "linux_proc_banner" ausgeben: Das geht erst, wenn man "/proc/version" öfters ausliest, und es damit in den L1 Cache gelangt:

Also wer KVM betreibt, der wird von Spectre 2 nicht so begeistert sein. Browserhersteller finden Spectre 1 und 2 nicht so toll. Auch ist Meltdown natürlich nicht schön, allerdings doch auch nicht so krass wie bisher geschrieben: Memoryauslesen geht nur wesentlich eingeschränkter als bislang behauptet.
… Darum gibts wohl auch keine wirklichen Exploits?
Es ist mir übrigends bislang allgemein auch noch nicht gelungen auch nur ein Byte über 0xffff bb00… den Speicher eines anderen Prozesses auszulesen, auch über verschiedenste Prozessoren hinweg (i3,i5,i7,Xeon,…). Nicht eines! Und ja, ich habe KASLR berücksichtigt. Selbst ein mikriges Testprogramm, dass mit Malloc auf dem heap etwas ablegt und es ständig per printf ausgibt, ist nicht auslesbar - mich würde interessieren ob das mit dem angeblichen 0xffff bb00, das sich ja mit der Kerneldoku deckt, allgemein falsch ist - so wie es der Googlepost ja nahelegt - oder was da noch falsch sein könnte…

Mein Bauchgefühl wäre: Wenn ein Bug im Key Exchange ist, dann wäre der auch im initialen Key-Exchange, nicht nur im Re-Keying.Spannend ist auch dieses Detail bei der Collection Encryption Suite, das ist ihre Empfehlung für die Verschlüsselung von abgehörten Daten, die sie irgendwo abgefangen haben, die aber unterwegs auf irgendwelchen unvertrauenswürdigen Wegen zu ihnen kommen. Da nennen sie als Beispiel:

Da sagen sie nämlich explizit, dass sie nicht als Ausrede gegen die Benutzung der installierten OS-Krypto gelten lassen, dass die jemand gehackt haben könnte (ein anderer Geheimdienst beispielsweise):

Da soll man dann halt ein OpenSSL statisch reinlinken.SHA1 hat die CIA intern übrigens schon länger verboten.
Interessant ist auch, dass die CIA sagt, wenn du ein File exfiltrieren willst, und du machst Krypto und nen Hash für die Integrität drüber, dann machst du den Hash bittesehr über den Ciphertext, nicht über den Plaintext. Begründung: Wenn ein ausländischer Geheimdienst das per SIGINT mitschnüffelt, könnte er den Hash sonst gegen alle Dateien auf dem System vergleichen und so sehen, welche Datei wir exfiltriert haben. Hier ist der Absatz:
The digest is calculated over the ciphertext vice plaintext in order to protect against a SIGINT actor with access to a compromised host obtaining any information about the transfer. In Utah, wo ich gerade bin, ist zum Beispiel ein heißes Thema, wie man mit Obdachlosen umgehen soll. Salt Lake City ist Mormonen-Hauptquartier, Utah ist überhaupt sehr stark von den Mormonen und ihren Werten beeinflusst, und hat mir zum ersten Mal bei einer Religion das Gefühl gegeben, dass das auch mal gute Auswüchse haben kann, von einer Religion beeinflusst zu sein. Und so ist man hier auch stark überdurchschnittlich daran interessiert, Obdachlosen zu helfen und sie wieder in die Gesellschaft zu integrieren. Der Effekt, den man auf der Straße sieht, ist aber genau gegenteilig. Dadurch, dass die hier nicht so Scheiße behandelt werden wie anderswo in den USA, gibt es hier vergleichsweise viele davon (die kommen dann halt von weiter weg her, und sterben hier auch nicht so schnell weg wie anderswo).
Aber hey, eigentlich ging es mir um was völlig anderes. Utah ist ein sehr konservartiver Bundesstaat der USA, wenn nicht gar der konservativste. Einer der Abgeordneten im Bundes-Congress aus Utah ist Jason Chaffetz, der dann natürlich in Washington die Parteilinie vertritt, wie alle Polit-Arschkriecher halt. Und das heißt im Moment: Trump-Fanboytum. U.a. hat Chaffetz sich für Trump aus dem Fenster gelehnt, als der Ethikausschuss letzten Monat Bedenken anmeldete bezüglich Trumps Gebaren. Aber wie alle Abgeordneten muss der gelegentlich an der Heimatfront seinen Wählern Rede und Antwort stehen, und das war gestern der Fall. Da spielten sich dann bemerkenswerte Szenen ab. Wie gesagt: Utah ist einer der konservativsten Bundesstaaten der USA.

Das macht mich natürlich nachdenklich. Wie kommt das, dass so viel Indignation und Hass in meine Richtung schwappt? Und dann stellte ich fest, dass ich die Antwort auch schon im Blog hatte, in Form eines Links zum immer wieder großartigen Slate Star Codex. Weil das vermutlich nicht viele gelesen haben, denn der Text war lang und brauchte Zeit, werde ich die Punkte hier nochmal inkompetent zusammenfassen. Wer diesmal doch lieber den ganzen Text lesen will: Hier nochmal der Link.
Die Herleitung ist mehrschichtig. Auf der einen Seite zitiert er PETA, diese Tierrechtler mit den geschmacklosen Stunts, die mehr Tiere töten als ihnen helfen (diese Site ist auch wunderbar für Medienkompetenztraining, findet mal die Betreiber raus). Er nennt eine Konkurrenzgruppe von PETA namens Vegan Outreach, die im Gegensatz zu PETA das Richtige tut und als Belohnung völlig unbekannt ist. PETA nimmt in Kauf, Teile ihrer Zielgruppe mit ihren abstoßenden Aktionen zu verschrecken, nicht weil sie dumm sind, sondern weil das aus einer bestimmten Perspektive richtig erscheint.

They shoot themselves in the foot because they’re traveling up an incentive gradient that rewards them for doing so, even if it destroys their credibility.Dann geht die Argumentation weiter über Vergewaltigungsfälle. Von denen Fällen, die in den Medien groß aufgebauscht wurden, weil Feministen aufsprangen und die Story viral machten, haben sich krass überproportional viele als falsche Anschuldigungen herausgestellt. Feministen greifen sich also extra die am offensichtlichsten schwachen Fälle raus und springen auf die auf, um ihre These zu verbreiten, dass es egal ist, wie schwach der Fall aussieht, wichtig ist nur, dass das Opfer sich als Opfer wahrnimmt. Der Effekt ist wie bei PETA. Viel Kontroverse und am Ende haben die Feministen ihren Thesen mehr Schaden zugefügt als neue Anhänger gewonnen. Warum machen die Feministen das?Seine These ist, dass Menschen ihre Zugehörigkeit zu sozialen Gruppen signalisieren wollen. Dazu gehört, die moralischen Werte der Gruppe zu vertreten. Wenn man jetzt den moralischen Wert "Tiere sollten gut behandelt werden" bei einem Fall von offensichtlicher Tierquälerei vertritt, dann gucken sich die Passanten das an und sagen: ja, klarer Fall von Tierquälerei, das muss beendet werden. Als Signal für die Gruppenzugehörigkeit eignet sich das daher nicht. Wenn du dich allerdings aus dem Fenster lehnst und die moralischen Werte in völlig überzogenen Fällen vertrittst, dann schreckst du damit zwar Außenstehende ab, aber um die ging es ja auch gar nicht. Es ging darum, innerhalb der Gruppe zu signalisieren, dass du so moralisch gefestigt bist, dass du die Prinzipien der Gruppe auch in unter Selbstaufgabe und Inkaufnahme von Schaden für den eigenen Ruf auf völlig abwegige Fälle anwendest. Man könnte also im übertragenen Sinne davon sprechen, dass man sich über solche Klogriffe als Märtyrer inszeniert. Märtyrern geht es ja auch nicht darum, den Gegner umzustimmen, sondern innerhalb der eigenen Gruppe Ansehen zu gewinnen. Und die Gruppe hat einen Anreiz, Märtyrer zu feiern, weil das den anderen gegenüber die Botschaft festigt, dass ihr eigenes Verhalten noch nicht weit genug geht (in unklaren Situationen sind Menschen immer versucht, ihre eigene Position in der Mitte des Spektrums zu suchen, und Märyrer treiben das Aktivismus-Extrem des Spektrums weiter nach außen, was auch die Mitte verschiebt).
Das Money Quote dazu ist:

Nicht viel. Man kann die Gegenseite nach rationalen Argumenten fragen, aber die gibt es natürlich nicht. Das war ja gerade der Punkt. Wenn es rationale Argumente gäbe, hätte sich derjenige einen anderen Fall für das Signalisieren der eigenen moralischen Überlegenheit gesucht.
Ich möchte übrigens ausdrücklich auf die Parallelen in Deutschland hinweisen, in der Causa Kachelmann beispielsweise.
Der Punkt ist jedenfalls, dass rationale Argumente nicht existieren, by design. Das ist so gewollt. Fälle mit rationalen Argumenten sind für die Selbstdarstellung der eigenen moralischen Überlegenheit unattraktiv. Die Frage ist jetzt, wie man damit umgehen soll.
Man könnte das jetzt als Troll-Herausforderung begreifen und nach rationalen Argumenten fragen, wohl wissend, dass es die nicht gibt. For the lulz, sozusagen. Hier ist ein aktuelles Beispiel dafür. In den Kommentaren haben zwei Leute noch jeweils 50 Euro draufgelegt. Trotzdem schweigen im Walde. Die einzigen, die überhaupt zu antworten versuchen, sind Männer ("Allies" im Feministen-Neusprech), und die haben natürlich keine Argumente, wieso man jemanden blocken muss, sondern bloß wieso ihrer Meinung nach irgendwas angeblich problematisch ist.
Alternativ könnte man sich vornehmen, solche Selbstdarstellungen einfach ab jetzt als Taten von Opfern in einem sektenähnlichen sozialen Konstrukt zu sehen, die sich in einem Wettstreit befinden, wer sich am gröbsten öffentlich zum Klops machen kann. Bei den der "Rape Culture" angeklagten Fraternities an US-Unis gibt es übrigens ganz ähnliche soziale Konstrukte, nur machen die das nur einmal am Anfang zur Einnordnung der Neuankömmlinge. Die sind hier also zivilisatorisch einen Schritt weiter.
Auf der dritten Seite stellt sich die Frage, ob man den Menschen nicht helfen kann, die in so einem pseudoreligiösen Kult gefangen sind. Sektenaussteigerprogramme? Wenn man die ignoriert, dann haben die ja so gut wie gar keine Chance, sich aus ihrem selbstzerstörerischen Abhängigkeitsverhältnis zu lösen.
Ich habe da auch keine Antwort. Aber ich finde, es hilft enorm, wenn man sich beim Lesen von solchen Tweets nicht auf "boah sind die alle debil" festlegt sondern über die Mechanismen nachdenkt, die Menschen zu sowas treiben können. Man darf ja nicht vergessen, dass diese Leute im Allgemeinen eine solide Schulbildung haben, größtenteils sogar einen Uniabschluss oder ein laufendes Studium. Das sind keine dummen Menschen!
Ich halte das für eine der essentiellen Fragen des menschlichen Zusammenlebens, wie man solchen Menschen helfen kann. Für mich ist das auf einer Ebene mit der Frage, wie man Drogenabhängigen (insbesondere Alkoholikern) helfen kann. Und ja, ich glaube übrigens, dass auch die Pegidisten ihren Zusammenhalt aus solchen sozialen Mechanismen beziehen. Wenn wir diese Nuss geknackt kriegen, wäre das ein enormer Fortschritt.
Vielleicht ist der Schlüssel, dass man ihnen immer wieder vor Augen führt, dass sie der Gruppe Schaden zufügen, nicht nur sich selbst. Die Gruppen merken das ja, dass sie Schaden nehmen. Aber keiner geht den Schritt, "liegt das vielleicht an mir?" zu fragen.

Manchmal habe ich ja das Gefühl, das die härtesten Law&Order Typen im konservativen/rechten Spektrum die übelsten Leichen im Keller haben - aber auf der linken Seite sind es eben die Leute die sich am aktivsten und möglichst lautstark als progressiv positionieren.
Ich frage mich langsam, ob dieser Effekt bei den Linken selbstverschuldet ist, oder ob da jemand nachhilft. Denn so stelle ich mir das Ergebnis einer extern getriggerten Zersetzungskampagne vor. Auf der anderen Seite: Wer sollte das tun? Geheimdienste? "Die Rechten"?
Update: Oh, hier geht noch der Hinweis ein, dass der eine oder andere vielleicht gar nicht weiß, wieso Kafka passt. Das bezieht sich auf Der Prozess, ein Roman von Franz Kafka, in dem es um einen Bankangestellten, der sich einer völlig untransparenten, nebulösen und willkürlichen Anklage gegenüber sieht und das Buch damit verbringt, herauszufinden, welcher Straftat er eigentlich bezichtigt wird. Er ist sich keiner Schuld bewusst. Und je mehr er versucht, den Prozess zu verstehen, um sich verteidigen zu können, desto weniger kommt er voran. Wikipedia fasst es so zusammen:

As a random EXE, they selected — wait for it — GenMDB.EXE itself!
Then the perpetrator was probably curious to find out if the trojan PDF would be detected by virus scanners or not.
So he uploaded the trojanized PDF to an online scanner.

Nun haben da diverse Medien drüber berichtet, und denen ist eine einstweilige Verfügung reingekloppt worden, daß sie das nicht erwähnen dürfen. Dagegen haben sie geklagt und jetzt Recht bekommen. Sie dürfen zwar nicht aus dem Papier zitieren, aber… na lest selbst:
